Hair is a lady’s crowning glory and a haircut can pretty much determine how we feel for the next few months. A bad one can send us into a complete frenzy as we scramble to Google ways to salvage it (DIY bangs, anyone?), whereas a good one means we look great and feel even better. In Singapore, there’s a plethora of hair salons and we are definitely spoilt for choice.

We compare four popular hair salons so you can choose and decide for yourself which you think is the best:

1. Jean Yip

It’s really hard not to spot homegrown brand, Jean Yip, because it’s literally everywhere. One of their featured services is the Super Shine Hair Treatment. It involves the use of Nano Keratin technology in both perming and rebonding. The nano-sized keratin allows hair to absorb protein easily for strength, shine and movement.

Price: From S$53.50 onwards for a ladies’ hair cut to S$250 for a keratin treatment.

What clients say: According to most online reviews, service seems to leave much to be desired but these reviews are rather old. The salon has been engaging bloggers recently and they appeared to have improved quite a bit.

Outlets: 26 outlets, including Tampines, Plaza Singapura, Jurong Point, and Causeway Point.

Extra: Besides hair, Jean Yip also does face and body treatments, and nail care.

2. Kimage Hair Studios

Another local brand, Kimage has come a long way since 1994. The salon believes that an individual’s personality can be reflected through his/ her hairstyle. There are currently 10 outlets and three additional ones under the “Prestige” label where senior stylists will attend to your mane.

Price: From S$40 for a style + shampoo and blow to S$400 for a Steam Bond (straightening, including a haircut).

What clients say: Great quality and service for the prices paid, especially those done at Plaza Singapura.

Outlets: 10, including Kovan, Toa Payoh, and Bukit Panjang Plaza.

Extra: Kimage has a School of Hairdressing at Funan IT Mall where you can get haircuts for SGD6 and hair treatments for SGD20+. The only catch is that these are done by trainee hairdressers but fret not, because trained hairdressers are there to supervise them!
