Refine pores and prevent acne: DIY purifying mask vs. Vichy Pore Purifying Clay Mask

Grace has acne-prone skin and has been on the lookout for a mask that can help purify her pores so she can keep acne at bay.

Vichy Masque Clay

A deeper look at the ingredients in the masks:

Vichy Pore Purifying Clay Mask

  • pH Balancing Thermal Water: It helps keep skin regain its pH balance, which keeps sebum in control.
  • Aloe vera: Soothing and hydrating, it calms irritation from pimples.
  • Allantoin: This has the ability to treat damaged and fragile skin, and has a moisturising and calming effect.

DIY purifying mask

  • Yogurt: It contains probiotics that are said to help with keeping pimples at bay.
  • Aloe vera: This helps to speed up healing and is said to reduce the appearance of acne scars.

Vichy Masque Clay Application

We applied the DIY mask on the right side of Grace’s face, and the Vichy Pore Purifying Clay Mask on her left.

Grace’s impression of both masks

Grace says: The DIY mask definitely glides on more easily than the Vichy Pore Purifying Clay Mask. It rinses off effortlessly too. The Vichy Pore Purifying Clay Mask has a creamy texture that makes it easier to apply and remove as compared to other clay masks I’ve tried before. The DIY mask has a very soothing and hydrating effect on my skin but I can barely see any improvement to my pores. The Vichy Pore Purifying Clay Mask, on the other hand, left my pores feeling more refined.

Verdict: Both masks have its merits, but the Vichy mask offers me the mattifying and “cleaned” effect that I was really looking for in a solution for my skin concerns.

Additional tips to masking

Consider “multi-masking” to customise the perfect solution for your skin. For instance, if you have combination skin that sees an oilier T-zone and drier U-zone, you may want to use a mattifying clay mask on the T-zone, and a hydrating mask on the U-zone to get the best of both worlds.
