Your Beach Wedding Preparation Isn’t Complete Without These Practical Beauty Tips

beach wedding

The sound of waves crashing against the shore, the hues of orange reaching out to envelop you and your groom just as he leans in to give you a kiss or does he eventually end up with a mouthful of your hair…

Most girls dream of having a romantic beach wedding but in reality, beach weddings can end up more of a nightmare than a dream. But trust us, a perfect day begins with perfect makeup. These seven tips are our wedding gift to you, to help you make your special day easier to get through:

1. Slather on that sunscreen

You must have heard it countless times: Don’t be lazy, and slap that sunscreen before you even put on any makeup. Trust us, you will not want to look like a lobster after your special day. Furthermore, not applying sunscreen on your face will damage your skin faster than you can say “I do”.

Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50

Try: Dermalogica AGE smart Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50 (SGD159). This is one of Dermalogica’s top-selling moisturisers with UV protection, which also has skin-calming benefits. On top of defending your skin from damaging UV rays, the formula also helps reduce the signs of skin ageing, sagging skin, and hyperpigmentation. It is available at authorised Dermalogica skin treatment centres: AsterSpring and exclusive Dermalogica salons.

2. Lighten your makeup

Even if you are used to putting on heavier makeup on a daily basis, it is not advisable at your wedding at the beach. With our tropical weather, the combination of thick foundation and heavy concealer is a recipe for disaster. Instead, start with a lightweight primer to hold your makeup together.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer

Try: Laura Mercier Foundation Primer (SGD62). This lightweight gel is to be used before foundation to protect your skin against environmental aggressors. It will also help your makeup look fresh throughout the day. Choose from variants like “hydrating”, “oil-free”, or “radiance” to achieve the finish that you prefer.

3. Invest in good foundation

While natural sunlight can be a blessing when it comes to taking good photographs, it can also be the bane of any beach bride’s existence if you do not have the right shade of foundation or concealer. Bright light is extremely unforgiving in photos and can illuminate flaws far more than indoor lighting does. It is therefore extremely important to get a perfect base makeup to prevent that unsightly “mask” line from appearing around the edges of your makeup. Getting a good foundation is certainly a great investment for your big day.

shu-uemura-lightbulb

Try: Shu Uemura The Lightbulb Fluid Foundation (SGD75, left in photo). This is a lightweight foundation that covers the appearance of imperfections without concealing a natural-looking glow. To help your foundation stay on more snugly, and to soften the look of your complexion, use the new Shu Uemura The Lightbulb Glowing Face Powder (SGD60, right in photo). It is colourless so it wouldn’t interfere with the colour of your foundation.

4. Blend, blend, blend

We cannot emphasise this enough. If slathering on sunscreen is the number 1 takeaway you are going to get from this article, blending will come in at a close second. Blend your foundation, your blusher, your bronzer, your eyeshadow. Blend everything! This will help ensure that your makeup looks smooth and natural even under the harshest of sunlight.

5. Tame your hair

Yes, the sea breeze may sound romantic. I mean you read it in books: her tousled hair springing against her back as she ran down the beach… well, you get it! It gives such a romantic touch to the whole idea of a beach wedding. Well, almost. In reality, if not handled properly, the high salt content at the beach can end up being a nightmare – to your hair.

Oribe Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray

Try: Oribe Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray. This helps calm the frizz in your hair so that regardless whether you’re sporting sleek, straight hair or romantic curls, your locks are going to stay beautiful for the entire day.
