When it comes to beauty trends, we usually ask our readers to only follow those that are appropriate for the occasion they’re in and that work well on them. After all, not every look is going to be suitable for everyone. We are making an exception on this trend, because, seriously, anyone can pull it off!

We are talking about the MLBB makeup trend. Acronym for “My Lips But Better”, MLBB is the latest trend to be embraced by Korean celebrities and influencers. To ace this look, you’ll need to look for a lipstick (the “in-crowd” calls it MLBB lipstick!) that resembles your natural lip colour but enhance its look by making your lips look more glossy or even-toned.

How to pull off the MLBB trend?

Typically, MLBB lipsticks come in mauve, nude and dusty pink shades.

Consider your My Lips But Better shade an amped-up version of your natural lip color. Not only will it enhance your features, but it will also work wonders as part of a no-makeup makeup look. There is a perfect MLBB lipstick for every skin tone. Women with fair complexions should look for versions with some depth as they’ll keep them from looking washed out, and women with darker skin tones should opt for sultry, caramel-nude lipsticks. My Lips But Better lipsticks come in a wide range of shades and formulas. Choose from natural nude, peach, and dusty mauve hues and gloss, matte lipstick, or sheer tint formulas.

The DV team has found their MLBB lipstick!

Dear My Blooming Lips-Talk 2016 Combined

We’ve been searching high and low for an MLBB lipstick that we love and Tiara and I found ours in the ETUDE HOUSE Dear My Blooming Lips-Talk collection! This range offers an array of textures from cream to matte, and has recently launched a new chiffon texture, which lets us enjoy the best of both worlds: the rich texture and great colour payoff of a cream lipstick, and the sustaining power of a matte lipstick.

The Korean brand has also added new shades to their matte and cream collection so we’re absolutely spoilt for choice. We love that the Dear My Blooming Lips-Talk feels light on the lips yet offer great longevity with minimal need for touch-up – yes, our lips but better indeed!

We picked out two MLBB shades that we love from the collection to show you how you can wear it for work and play.

Kristen’s MLBB look for work

I usually sport understated makeup to work. My staples: lightly filled-in brows, eyeliner, blusher, and a touch of lip colour. This is how my makeup looks without any lip colour on:

Without any lip colour, my lips look a little dry and flaky, and the tone is uneven.

This is how my makeup looks after applying the ETUDE HOUSE Dear My Blooming Lips-Talk in BE101, a pinkish-beige shade, a new colour from the Cream collection.

I love that it helps to fill in the fine lines caused by dryness and complements the makeup easily. This pretty MLBB shade makes it look like I have gorgeous lips effortlessly.

DV Tip: For work makeup, accentuate your eyes with a flicked eyeliner to make them look more awake. Choose shimmer eyeshadow in a light shade to further enhance the liveliness of your eyes. In this look, I applied a shimmery pink eyeshadow.

Tiara’s MLBB look for play

Tiara loves her eye makeup and is not afraid of experimenting with colours especially when she’s not at work. In this look, she’s wearing RD304.

This is how her makeup looks like without any lip colour.

Without any lip colour, Tiara’s lips look dull and lifeless. It also makes her overall makeup look incomplete.

To complement her day-out makeup, she has used the ETUDE HOUSE Dear My Blooming Lips-Talk in RD304.

She loves that while this shade completes her makeup look, it does not take the attention away from her eye makeup, which she has taken time to make sure it stands out.

DV Tip: If you, like Tiara, loves your eye makeup, go ahead and flaunt it! Choose a taupe colour that will still look appropriate for work, and then amp it up to make it smokier or add a touch of glitter for it to be party-ready.

The ETUDE HOUSE Dear My Blooming Lips-Talk collection retails at SGD17.90 at all ETUDE HOUSE boutiques.
