It’s funny how we often wished we were adults when we were teenagers – the thought that we could have more freedom, no more school, and more spending power, excites us. But when we finally become adults and start seeing our first signs of ageing, do we still love our age?

According to a survey by Daily Vanity, not really. When Singapore women were asked how old they wished they were now, 72.3% of the respondents admitted that they’d rather be younger than they really are. The “most popular age”? 25.

In the same survey, in which all respondents were female, we also found out that 1 in 5 feel uncomfortable sharing their real age with strangers. 43.8% of the respondents feel that they are judged for their age, 37.5% are worried that people will think they look older than their actual age, and 6.2% sheepishly confessed that they are not “proud” of their age.

Feel your best regardless of your age

We should feel good in our skin regardless of our age, adopt these habits to start agreeing “age is just a number”.

1. Good skin gives you confidence

Ageing gracefully doesn’t mean you should do nothing about your appearance. In fact, taking good care of yourself by paying attention to your skin increases confidence. Invest in a good anti-ageing product, such as Lancôme’s Advanced Génifique Youth Activating Concentrate. This serum harnesses the power of gene science to improve the look and feel of your complexion. It is a great complement to any skincare regime you may have now by boosting the other products’ efficacy. When you look good, you’ll feel even better.

2. Record your achievements

Your age reflects the experiences and achievements that you have accumulated. Remember when you become a mother to your firstborn, or when you went on a solo trip for the first time? Keep a book to record your achievements and milestones – they can be both exceptional and mundane ones – so you can remind yourself of your experiences, over the years and how they have molded you. Include photos in the book if possible. And to bring this up to the next level, jot down the milestones and goals you’re looking forward to in the years to come.

3. Treat yourself better

We spend quality time with the ones we love – our children, our significant other, our best friends. But when was the last time you spent time with the one person you should really prioritise – you? Make regular “dates” with yourself. Whether it’s quiet time reading a book, treating yourself to a sneaky dessert in bed, visiting a cafe for your favourite beverage, or going for a pampering facial treatment, these activities help us love ourselves more and understand ourselves better.

4. Keeping your dreams

Social norms may tell you that you’re too old to dream. Don’t believe it! Never let your age be a valid excuse to impede you from pursuing anything you want. Lancôme ambassadors
will tell you it’s never too late to be who you want to be. Never too late to be inspired:
