In 2017, we make way for the customisable beauty trend that is expected to get really big as the year progresses. The meaning of the trend is as literal as it gets: Users will be given the free reign to pick, choose and create looks that’s customisable to their preferences and needs.

The freedom is exactly the reason why this trend is going to take over the beauty world. Rest assured, you’ll see more and more brands coming out with customisable products. But for now, here’s a list of products that are already in the market!

1. Urban Decay Complexion Primers

General face primers may not work for every single skin type. The new Urban Decay Complexion primers come in four versions – De Slick, Optical Illusion, Urban Defense, and Self-Adjusting. Each primer targets different skin concerns and needs, which is great because you get to pick the primer that will work best for you. Here’s a short description of each primer and what it does:

De-Slick: De-Slick Complexion Primer helps to keep oil at bay – perfect for Singapore’s hot and humid weather! It mattifies and smoothes the skin while minimising the appearance of pores. It’s recommended for those with oily skin.

Optical Illusion: This primer gives complexion a soft-focus effect by blurring out uneven texture and pores. In a light pink tint that dries translucent and matte, it brightens skin before applying foundation. It also helps makeup to stay on longer.

Urban Defense: The Urban Defense primer is a clear sunscreen that primes and protects skin from the sun (SPF30). It has a hydrating gel formula that contains conditioning ingredients like sesame seed extract, tomato fruit extract, squalane, and bisabolol (derived from the Brazilian candeia tree). But those with oily skin need not worry because it won’t leave the skin feeling oily!

Self-Adjusting: Just like the name suggests, it adapts to the user’s skin tone. Just like the other primers, it helps to blur out imperfections and make your makeup stay on longer. It also has shine-control properties that means it’s great for us living near the equator!

These primers retail at SGD55 and are available at their free standing stores at Bugis Junction, Takashimaya and VivoCity, as well as Sephora.

2. Make Up For Ever Step 1 Primers

If nothing from the Urban Decay line appeals to you, try the Make Up For Ever primers. They have an astounding range of 11 different primers for different purposes and skin tones. The Make Up For Ever Step 1 Primers retail at SGD70 and are available at Sephora.sg and their Make Up For Ever Pro Loft at Armenian Street.

3. Skin Inc Customised Serums

Skincare is very personal and many times, you may find that what works well for your best friend, may end up working horribly for you. To ensure that you give your skin exactly what it needs, why not create a custom-blend serum?

Choose three of Skin Inc’s nine serums to create your own custom blended serum. Now you must be wondering, how do I know what my skin needs? Before choosing the serum, you’ll have to answer a simple quiz to find out what your skin needs. You can do this online. Once you’ve done that, they’ll recommend to you the three serums you need to create your super serum that will attend to your skin needs.

The set, which comes with one serum bottle and the three serums of your choice (10ml/bottle), retails at SGD169. You can get them online at skininc.com and sephora.sg, or at Sephora stores and their free-standing store at ION Orchard.

The best part? It has a section in the middle of the palette where you can mix the colours in!
