For the average person, your daily skincare routine (facial wash, toner, moisturiser) may already feel like a huge chore. Have you heard of the 10-step Korean skincare routine?

I thought I’ve nailed the whole “skincare routine checklist” with my 5-step routine every night. That was until I visited Annabelle Skin, a modest facial salon located at the heart of Singapore, and had the shock of my life.

Annabelle Skin, The Adelphi, 1 Coleman Street #02-42

Walking into Annabelle on a week day was a breath of fresh air. The understated space was welcoming and comfy, instantly giving me a sense of peace and relaxation, away from the buzz of work in the city.

Skin Consultation

Before starting on my facial, I was given a personal consultation session with my therapist. I was confident of the condition of my skin. I had always been confident, and very grateful that I have normal to combination skin and do not experience major skin concerns.

I had it going great. Or so I thought.

When I saw the close-up images of my skin, I was shocked! From the skin analysis, my skin was still considered “young skin”, however there were some problem areas at my cheeks and nose.

cheeks Cheeks: This part of my facial skin is more sensitive and seems to be irritated. My skin was “angst”. Normal healthy skin is beige in colour instead of pinkish. The redness in the center of my cheeks is due to the mild flaring of skin. And here I thought it was a healthy flush!
nose Nose: The skin on my nose is relatively healthy; however there are some visible clogged pores. My therapist advised not to squeeze pimples or blackheads as I may permanently damage my skin.

DV Tip:
Use a well-formulated daily facial cleanser with AHA + BHA exfoliants to treat clogged pores, and gently remove your blackheads and whiteheads. Remember to always wear sunscreen to protect your skin as removing dead skin also means you have one less natural sun barrier.

Personalised Treatment

After understanding the condition of my skin and my lifestyle, my therapist recommended Dr Belter Cosmetic’s new [Derm-A-ReNew] treatment. She explains the chemical peel treatment combines natural and medicinal plants with pro-medical active ingredients to renew and nourish the skin. The therapists at Annabelle Skin were gentle and detailed in explaining the treatment that I will be receiving.

Even though the treatment room was very modestly decorated, the comfort and luxury of the whole process does not pale in comparison with premium salons.

Here is a brief description of my  customised treatment procedure:

1) Cleansing
My face was triple cleansed with moisturising products to ensure all makeup and sunscreen residue is removed before the treatment.

2) Preparation
Nutritive eye balm is applied around lash line, nostrils, lip contour or birth marks

3) Fruit Acid

  • Derm-A-ReNew skin renewal concentrate

I was given a 10% intensity concentrate as it was my first time experiencing a chemical peel treatment. The concentrate gives a ‘prickly’ feeling to the skin. The fruit acid is said to activate the renewal of the skin’s layers, and trigger the skin’s natural production of moisture and tone. It also improves the skin’s absorption of nutrients.  The concentrate was left on for 3-6 mins; at this point in time, I was already in a state of limbo as it was just too comfortable and luxurious.

  • Derm-A-ReNew Neutralising Gel

After the fruit acid concentrate has been removed by cotton pads, the neutralising gel was used to ensure no residue of fruit acid was left on my skin.

4) Active Concentrate & Mask

  • Massaging of ampoule and balm into the skin

This was the most therapeutic experience for me throughout the two hours of treatment! The Shea butter & boabab massage balm completely calmed my senses and deeply nourishes my skin. I was then given a mask containing all the goodness my ‘angst’ skin needs (remember the redness and pores on my cheeks and nose area?)

The mask contains these properties:

  • Strong Anti-oxidant
  • Cell regeneration
  • Pore refining
  • Cell restoring
  • Whitening

5) Finishing Care
My skin was then given its final dose of love and pampering with a facial tonic lotion and moisturiser to prep me for the day! Not to forget – a sun protection face elixir to shield my skin from the unforgiving UV rays.

Writer’s Overall Thoughts

Annabelle Skin is indeed a professional and legit facial salon which ensures you have the best treatment customised for your skin. Even though the treatment did not have any immediate changes to my skin that is visible to the eye, I could feel a drastic difference to the moisture content, elasticity and healthy glow on my skin. It felt like my skin was regenerating on its own for the next one to two weeks! My skin also did feel softer and much more moisturised and revitalised right after the session.

Who says facial is only for the ladies?

Annabelle Skin is a great place to bring the man in your life for a customised, targeted treatment. We all know how men are like with their skin – i.e. facial wash means using your body soap on your face, is toner for the printer?

It is not surprising when my therapist told me a significant number of their clientele are men. Even army boys visit the salon for regular facial sessions!

The Dr Belter [Derm-A-ReNew] treatment is available at SGD238 and is suitable for both males and females, as well as different skin conditions including acne, enlarged pores, dull skin complexions, scarring, pigmentation, and mature, wrinkled skin.
