This cult-favourite luxury foundation just got an upgrade – here’s why it’s the best all-rounder we’ve tried

While many of us have likely learned of at least one side effect that has come with regular face mask wear (we’re talking about the dreaded maskne), slipping a mask on and off throughout the day can also wreak havoc on yet another aesthetic aspect – our foundation.

Yup, there’s nothing more embarrassing than removing your mask only to reveal patches in your full coverage beat. Besides lasting, transfer-resistant coverage, we also seek lightweight formulas that hug the skin without suffocating it, all while providing comfortable all-day wear.

Well, your search for the one might finally be over with the newly reformulated Armani Beauty Power Fabric+ Foundation.

Why Armani Beauty Power Fabric is a holy grail foundation for many

First launched in 2018 when the brand reached our shores, the original Armani Beauty Power Fabric Foundation was built to be a reliable base that’ll help you nail every dress code, whether it’s smart casual or cocktail hour.

The formula became a versatile and timeless essential, much like Giorgio Armani’s sophisticated simplicity and sleek tailoring, which served as inspiration for the foundation. The liquid foundation combines silky smooth, full coverage with a long-wearing, matte finish that’s akin to a second skin.

It’s no surprise that it became a cult-favourite foundation that both makeup enthusiasts and professional artists reach for when they want to put their best face forward.

This year, the beloved formula received an upgrade, promising even longer-lasting coverage and enhanced comfort. Read on to discover what’s new about the foundation and my thoughts on its performance.

What’s new with the upgraded Armani Beauty Power Fabric+ Foundation

Thanks to the foundation’s high concentration of pure pigments, the formula provides flawless coverage to perfect your complexion. The Armani Beauty Power Fabric+ Foundation’s delicate, lightweight texture melts on the skin, allowing your skin’s natural luminosity to shine through.

Its sublime texture transforms from a liquid to powder, settling on the skin to deliver 24-hour wear. Even better, the foundation is transfer-resistant (yup, even when you don a mask), water-resistant, sweat-resistant, and heat-resistant.

The formula is further bolstered by SPF 20 PA++ protection, which shields your skin against harmful UVA and UVB rays.

Of course, the luxury label’s fashion arm is an expert when it comes to textiles, which is exactly what inspired the formula’s Micro-fil technology™. This technology uniformly weaves pure pigments with a translucent base to grant you true-to-colour coverage.

To accompany its reformulation, the Armani Beauty Power Fabric+ Foundation’s shade range has also expanded, offering 15 nuanced shades that have been further refined to complement the uniqueness of every skin tone.

Armani Beauty Power Fabric+ Foundation review: First impressions

First impressions matter, and no product understood the assignment better than the Armani Beauty Power Fabric+ Foundation.

Housed in a frosted glass bottle topped with a black lacquered cap, the Power Fabric+ Foundation flaunts sleek packaging and a red logo that’s just as bold as one of Armani’s power suits.

As someone who has sensitive, acne-prone skin, I typically end up using more foundation to cover up red patches, blemishes, and acne scars. However, one pump of the Armani Beauty Power Fabric+ Foundation in shade 4.5 was all I needed to conceal my imperfections, which is a testament to its powerful coverage.

It also bears a slight floral fragrance that dissipates pretty quickly – something to note if you’re particular about scented foundation formulas.

Liquid foundations with a matte finish are notoriously difficult to blend out, in my experience, but this thin yet creamy formula melted into my skin as I blended it out with a makeup sponge, effectively correcting discolouration and unevenness with ease.

The end result is a weightless, seamless, velvety-matte finish that feels barely even there. Unlike other matte foundations I’ve tried, the Armani Beauty Power Fabric+ Foundation doesn’t leave my skin looking flat and dull. Light still bounces off my skin, giving my complexion a candlelit glow.

If you have dry skin, however, you’ll want to prep your complexion with a richer moisturiser first as the foundation can cling to and accentuate dry patches. Meanwhile, those with oilier skin will likely fall head over heels for this formula.

Is the Armani Beauty Power Fabric+ Foundation truly transfer-resistant?

Of course, I could set my makeup with a light dusting of translucent powder to minimise transfer, but in order to truly challenge the transfer resistance of Armani Beauty Power Fabric+ Foundation, I decided to put it to the test.

I wore the foundation out for several hours over the weekend. When I checked my mask and complexion during lunch, the lower areas of the mask were lightly stained but there weren’t any unsightly patches on my cheeks, so the foundation hadn’t moved much at all.

At the end of my nine-hour day, I took off the mask and examined it again.

As you can see, there’s minimal foundation transfer on the bottom half of the mask where I went in with a little more foundation to hide my acne scars – a marked improvement from my usual liquid foundation, which would practically turn the inside of my mask entirely beige.

It’s impressive considering how humid the day was and how much I spoke to my partner throughout the day.

The Armani Beauty Power Fabric+ Foundation hardly budged when faced with sweat and heat, which allowed me to carry on with my day without having to worry about what my makeup would look like hours later.

Armani Beauty Power Fabric+ Foundation review: The final verdict

When it comes to beauty products, expensive formulas are by no means better than their affordable counterparts. And trust me, I love a good wallet-friendly find just as much as anyone else.

That being said, there are also plenty of expensive products with price tags that are completely justifiable. And the Armani Beauty Power Fabric+ Foundation happens to be one that’s worth every penny.

It’s luxe in every sense of the word, from the packaging and sensorial texture, to the flattering, radiant finish and excellent coverage. I’m particularly impressed by how it sits comfortably on the skin and maintains a flawless hold after hours on the go, even in humid weather and under a face mask.
