I’m a brow-tweezing kind of girl for as long as I remember. Waxing, to me, is reserved for the bikini line. But when Benefit Cosmetics invited me for their signature brow bar service, I decided to take the plunge, because their brow products are incredible and I’d trust them with my brows.
The Benebabe (the term that Benefit calls their counter beauty advisors) that helped me was Jerlyn, who is one of the best Benefit brow experts in Singapore. She began the service by tracing out how my brows should ideally look like, based on proportions to my features. It was a very technical process, almost like how an architect draws out his/her construction.
Then, she applied some Vaseline to protect my eyelids.
And began to tint my brows. This is a separate service that you can opt for on top of brow waxing.
While waiting for the tint to dry, Jerlyn asked if I wanted to wax off the little hair above my lips. I gamely agreed.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t painful at all, and I was sure I would be ready to venture into waxing off my excess brows. Jerlyn did a patch test with me to make sure I find the heat of the wax comforting and not too hot. The waxing on the brows, just like the moustache area, wasn’t as painful as I expected. I’d say that while the overall pain is slightly more than that of tweezing, because it happened so fast, it only hurt for less than one second (unlike tweezing, where you may have to endure with the discomfort for a while).
After waxing, Jerlyn applied some toner on the area to soothe it. (See below for picture where she put a strip of cotton pad soaked with toner on my moustache area.)
After waxing, Jerlyn proceeded to tweeze off any stubborn brow hair that she didn’t manage to remove with waxing.
She combed and trimmed my brows carefully.
This is what it looked like before the waxing (note: it’s already gone through tinting):
And this is how it looked after waxing.
Jerlyn then taught me how to fill in my brows using Benefit’s Brow Zings.
Ta-dah! Can someone say “strong brow game”?
The brow tint lasted for approximately five days and it really meant I don’t have to fill in my brows at all after that. Waxing also gives a cleaner finish which helps make my brows look even neater and more defined. It looks like I would be opting for waxing over tweezing from now if I can help it. Benefit Brow Bar’s waxing service costs SGD24 and is available at selected Benefit counters.
