We're Now On Telegram

We can’t always afford the time and money to schedule for weekly facial treatments, so to keep our skin at tip-top condition, facial masks is the way to go. Facial masks are a great way to boost your skin’s appearance because it’s packed with a rich amount of serum to feed your skin intensively.

Here are seven newest facial masks that have been launched. We tried every one of them to let you know if they’re good and what they’re good for. Use them once a week or the night before an important day, and choose based on your needs.

1. Facial sheet mask for anti-ageing benefits at night

You might already be familiar with Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Concentrate. The serum is the brand’s bestseller and most iconic product, and in the same collection are the Advanced Night Repair Eye, an eye cream, and the Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum. The latest to join the family is this sheet mask – the Advanced Night Repair Concentrated Recovery Powerfoil Mask, which delivers the efficacy of the Advanced Night Repair Concentrate in potent amounts to the skin.

This mask is different from usual cotton masks because of its “dual-matrix” system: the inside matrix releases the concentrate, while the inside matrix forms a protective barrier to help enhance penetration.

The mask comes in two parts – for the upper and lower parts of the face for better fit. Use it as part of your night routine and remove it just before you head to bed. You can consider patting on some moisturiser after all the concentrate has been absorbed by your skin. This retails at SGD120 for four pieces, and SGD216 for eight pieces.

What do we think: While we usually struggle with one-piece masks in terms of fitting them perfectly around our facial contours, this fits much better. The mask smells just like the Advanced Night Repair Concentrate, which is a herbaceous scent. Skin feels taut and firm, and looks less tired after applying the mask.

2. Hydrogel mask for an ultra-hydrating overnight treatment

If you like overnight masks and are looking for something intensely-moisturising, try the Biotherm Life Plankton Mask. Using the same technology that powers the Life Plankton Essence, this hydrogel mask is formulated to soothe skin of redness, visible signs of ageing, and to protect it from daily aggressors. Apply it using the Wrapping Applicator that was specially designed for this product. The brush has soft bristles that doesn’t just help the product to apply more evenly, but also offers a gentle massage effect on the skin.

You’re recommended to use this twice a week and you’ll wake up to fresher-looking skin.

The Biotherm Life Plankton Mask  retails at SGD72, and as part of its introductory promotion, you’ll also receive the brush applicator, a 20ml Biosource Cleanser, and a 15ml Life Plankton Essence. Find out more here.

What do we think: I like that it doesn’t leave a residue when we wake up with it. Skin feels thoroughly hydrated as I woke up, which is a nice feeling to have, because my skin tends to be a little oily in the morning. It feels as if I didn’t need to apply a moisturiser the next day.

3. Gentle sheet mask for an immediate hydration boost

If you’re looking for a quick fix for dehydrated skin, the Dr. Jart+ Vital Hydra Solution is an ideal choice. Created with the concept of a hyaluronic acid injection that can be received at aesthetics clinic for moisture boosting, this mask delivers moisturising ingredients through its ultra-adhesive deep hydration sheet. On top of this, the brand tested the product to make sure it’s free from 10 common allergens and harmful ingredients like parabens and talc, and have completed skin irritation tests for it, which means that even those with sensitive skin will have no problem using it.

This retails at SGD7 per sheet at Sephora from March 2016.

What do we think: Some masks give a prickly feeling on very dry areas on my skin, like around the nose, but this definitely isn’t one of them. My skin looks plumper and feels bouncier after using this and I will recommend that you use it just before heading out for an important event where you need to look your best.

4. Wipe-off masque to brighten up dull complexion

You can always count on Kiehl’s to formulate products that use great botanical-based skincare ingredients sourced from all over the world. The latest masque they launched, the Turmeric & Cranberry Energizing Radiance Masque, is one of them.

This is formulated with turmeric, which has been used in traditional Turmeric, Chinese and Egyptian medicine for its skin healing and soothing quality. It is also known for its skin detox function. Within Kiehl’s formula, Turmeric Extract has been shown to deliver brightening benefits that address the look of dull, lacklustre skin to restore a healthy glowing appearance.

Cranberry, which is a source of antioxidant, is another key ingredient in the formula, As you apply the masque, you’ll feel “bits” in it that helps gently exfoliate your skin – these “bits” are actually cranberry seeds. Apply a generous amount over the entire face, leave it on for 15 minutes, then clean it away gently with a piece of tissue paper, and finally, rinse off.

What do we think: The first thing I noticed is just how nice the masque smells. The exfoliating properties of the masque also gives my skin the two-in-one weekly treatment that it needs. After using it, my skin feels smoother and looks brighter.

5. Sleep mask for skin lifting benefits

Suisse Programme, which is known as the leading expert in cellular research, has launched their new Caviar Premier Series. Besides a lifting cream and an eye cream, the collection also includes the Caviar Premier Sleep Mask.

You probably know caviar as a gourmet ingredient used in fine dining, but it is used in skincare too, because of its nourishing benefits. This is not the only opulent ingredient in this product; the product is also formulated with Nano Gold, which has antioxidant and anti-wrinkle functions.

The Suisse Programme Caviar Premier Sleep Mask is to be used once to thrice a week and left overnight before rinsing off with warm water the next morning. It retails at SGD245 at all Sasa stores.

What do we think: The formula is very rich and smells and feels very luxurious. While it is very rich, it appears that the skin absorbs it quite quickly, and the formula is not very visible after a while, although you can still feel it. The next morning, my skin looks plumper and less tired, and fine lines at the corners of my lips and along the forehead are less visible.

6. Biocellulose mask for regular brightening treatment

Bio cellulose masks from For Beloved One isn’t exactly new, but this is a new formula. The For Beloved One Melasleep Brightening Lumi’s Key Bio Cellulose Mask offers brightening effect by delivering intense whitening and moisture benefits to the skin through its unique bio cellulose sheet. The Matrixyl 3000 3D Elasticity Repair Formula in the mask further stimulates collagen production so that skin becomes more supple.

While many products have also launched bio cellulose masks, For Beloved One has always been known as the brand that really made it popular. If you’re wondering about the difference between traditional cotton masks and bio cellulose masks, we’ve done a comparison between them.

The For Beloved One Melasleep Brightening Lumi’s Key Bio Cellulose Mask retails at SGD63 for a pack of three, and is available at Sephora.

What do we think: For Beloved One is definitely one of the brands that produces high quality bio cellulose masks, and I love how snugly the mask adheres to my face, so I can still go about doing other things while pampering my skin. If you’re expecting your skin to turn a shade fairer with this mask, you’ll be disappointed, but it definitely helps to brighten up my complexion and leaves a dewy look. I find it a great product to use before makeup because it helps my makeup stay on longer and look fresher.

7. Peel-off mask to target lines

This unique product from Hadabisei isn’t like your typical masks. You are to apply the Hadebisei Facial Pack only to areas with lines such as between your brows, along your forehead, or around the eye and mouth areas. You are also encouraged to use it on the neck where lines tend to appear.

After applying a thick layer on areas you’d like to target, wait for the formula to dry up and then gently peel off.

It retails at SGD26.90 and you can find it on Beauty Carousel and leading drugstores.

What do we think: Unlike traditional masks where you feel an overall suppleness or hydration after application, this product doesn’t have this benefit because of its application method. Instead, it helps to make lines that you apply it on appear less obvious. I find that lines between my brows and around the nose looked less obvious after application, as the formula deeply moisturised them and brightened them. It is also easy to use and easy to peel off.
