Happy Lunar New Year!

I have been an epilator user when it comes to getting rid of unwanted hair. I find it the most inexpensive, effective, and painless method that I’ve grown very used to. I first learnt about Braun’s epilators when I had to write about it as a junior writer at my first job some eight years ago, but that first impression was also a lasting impression because Braun’s epilators’ features were indeed impressive. In fact, my last epilator was from Braun, and I have been satisfied with it. So before I tried the latest Braun Silk-epil 9 epilator for this review, I was already a happy Braun epilator user.

What’s new with the Braun Silk-épil 9?

The new Braun epilator – the Silk-épil 9 – now features a head that’s 40% wider so that more hairs can be captured and removed in one stroke. On top of this, with the Micro Grip Tweezer Technology, it offers wider, longer and deeper tweezers so that hairs as short as 0.5mm can be picked up. It also now has the latest curved geometry, not just for good looks, but more importantly to ensure that the device can have a closer contact to your skin. Braun claims that the technology help the epilator pick up four times shorter hairs that you would with wax, and you can enjoy hair-free days for up to four weeks.

Newer and better

Like I’ve said, I actually already enjoyed my previous Braun epilator and can’t complain about it. But interestingly, the new Braun Silk-épil 9 still made me go “wow” because I could see a significant difference in the efficiency at picking up hairs. I find that it’s even more effortless with the new device – it’s faster and cleaner, much to my (very pleasant) surprise.

As with the previous Braun device I was using, it is also very gentle on the skin, thanks to the High Frequency Massage system that delivers pulsating active vibrations to make the experience for comfortable, as well as the Skin Adapting Pivoting head to stimulate the skin further.

Like the older models, this epilator is 100% waterproof so I can use it safely in the shower – a habit that I’ve been sticking to. The fact that it’s waterproof means that I can cleanse it out more easily too. I also appreciate the Smart Light function, which serves as a guiding light so that I will never miss a spot.

A full charge can be completed in approximately one hour, and every charge gives me around 40 minutes of use. This can be translated to approximately three uses before I need to recharge it again – pretty low maintenance. I also love that it comes with a charging stand that allows you a sleeker charging method.

A few other nice fixtures that comes with the Silk-épil 9: a facial cleansing brush (yes, you cleanse your face with it), and a trimmer cap (for you to trim more sensitive areas).

Overall, I’m very pleased with the Braun Silk-épil 9 and can’t find any major fault with it. In fact, I’ll be happy to abandon my previous model and stick to this one for now, or until an even more advanced Braun epilator comes along.

This is the Silk-épil 9 SkinSpa (SGD259) that you can check out if you like its exfoliating function.

The Braun Silk-épil 9 epilator can be found at all major electrical chain stores, departmental stores, selected hypermarkets and independent electrical stores. The recommended retail price begins at SGD219.
