Pure Active Fruit Energy Gel and Scrub

One of the most recent launches by Garnier is the Pure Active Fruit Energy cleansers: Daily Energising Gel Wash and Daily Energising Gel Scrub. The former is a daily cleanser that helps to awaken skin and tighten pores, while the latter promises to unclog pores, tighten them, and give your skin a radiant glow.

I have been sent both products for review.

The first impression of the duo is just how sweet-smelling they are. Formulated with extracts of grapefruit and pomegranate, the cleansers carry a pleasant citrus scent that I’m sure will find favour with most people. In fact, I wish there were a shower gel version to this, and I’d totally use it. (Oh wait, actually Crabtree & Evelyn’s Pomegranate series does smell very similar to this).

Pomegranate is known for its ability to rejuvenate skin cells so your skin will look plumper and more radiant, while grapefruit is known for increasing the skin’s pH (more alkali), so pimples can be kept at bay. Finally, vitamin C is another ingredient that can be found in the cleansers, which have brightening properties to protect skin from UV exposure.

Garnier Pure Active Fruit Energy

Does Garnier Pure Active Fruit Energy work?

Both products leave a cooling sensation on the skin, coupled with the divine citrus scent, you’ll feel your skin being energised instantly. On mornings that I refuse to wake up (we all have those days, right?), this helps to quickly perk me up so I feel ready to take on the rest of my day. The scrub contains really fine microbeads that help to exfoliate without hurting the skin too.

However, take note that these two cleansers are formulated for those with oily skin that is prone to blemishes. That means, if you have normal skin or dry skin, I will definitely not recommend this for you.

Why do I have to use cleansers for my skin type?

Our skin’s pH is actually slightly acidic, and it is naturally so. If it gets too alkali, your skin will actually dry out. This is why overcleansing is bad for your skin. The Garnier Pure Active Fruit Energy, as mentioned, contains Grapefruit to help increase the skin’s pH, which helps those who are acne-prone deal with oiliness. So, if you have dry skin (that means your skin’s pH is already quite high), using a product like this is just going to make your skin even drier.

I have combination skin (normal-dry) and my skin feels a little tight (though refreshed) after using the cleanser. I have since passed them on to my brother (who has oily skin, but most men have oily skin anyway) to use.

Garnier Pure Active Fruit Energy Daily Energising Gel Wash (SGD12.90) and Daily Energising Gel Scrub (SGD14.90) are available at Watsons, Garnier, major supermarkets, hypermarts and selected department stores.
