Exfoliating is an important part of the skincare regime because our skin cells die everyday, and they are left on the surface of the skin if we don’t exfoliate and remove them. Dull-looking complexion and blackheads are two problems lead about by that layer of dead skin cells on the skin. Also, without exfoliation, the goodness of your skincare products cannot penetrate easily into the skin! Horror!
Daily Vanity puts five exfoliators to the test and compare them according to the following criteria:
- How the skin feels after exfoliating
- For how long the effects last
- Whether it feels too harsh on the skin
- How it smells
- Overall impression
Let’s take a look at the five products we are comparing:
Benefit B.right Refined Finish Facial Polish
This is one of the products that Benefit Cosmetics launched in its B.right skincare line. It is rather gentle scrub and has a floral scent that smells really good.
How to use: Apply the exfoliator onto skin (without wetting), put a ltitle water to allow the product to be spread across the skin. Then slowly massage.
Elishacoy Milk Cacao Black Sugar Scrub
Elishacoy is a Korean brand that is known for its skincare products and BB cream. This product smells like chocolate.
How to use: Apply it onto wet skin and massage.
Ginvera Green Tea Marvel Gel
This is probably oldest skincare products from the Ginvera skincare range and remains one of its bestsellers through the years. This has a herbal smell.
How to use: Apply onto dry skin and massage. Dry “particles” will be produced. Massage till no more “particles” are produced. Rinse off particles.
Skinfood Black Sugar Wash Off Scrub
Sugar has been used as an exfoliator in several DIY mask recipes. Black sugar, in particular, is known for its hydrating properties.
How to use: Apply onto wet skin and massage.
Tony Moly Appletox Smooth Massage Peeling Cream
The cute packaging will probably be the first to catch your eyes. This is one of Tony Moly’s bestsellers, together with Tomatox, a tomato-shaped oxygenated facial mask. This has a refreshing citrus scent.
How to use: Apply onto dry skin, massage and rinse off.
We accredited up to 5 points for each criteria up and tabulate the total score by adding up all the points. For how long effects last, if it’s one day, the product earns 1 point; if it’s two days, it earns 2 points.
