A little black dress, or an LBD, is seen as a fashion essential in every wardrobe, because of the ability to dress up or dress down with it. The new Little Black Primer by Estee Lauder is pretty much like your LBD – its strength is in its versatility.

There are three ways to wear this product:

1. Use it on its own
2. Use it as a primer (before mascara application)
3. Use it as a top coat (after mascara application)

Before we go into the review, did we mention that this is fronted by the new face of Estee Lauder, Kendall Jenner? Check out this commercial:

Using Estee Lauder’s Little Black Primer On Its Own

If you’re used to heavy-duty mascara, you’re going to find the Little Black Primer insufficient. This product offers very subtle lengthening and volumising effect to the lashes, so the result looks very natural. It is great for when you want to pull off a no-makeup look. Another great thing about it as a mascara is that it gives a glossy appearance.

Using Estee Lauder’s Little Black Primer As A Primer

My favourite way of using the product is probably as a primer. Typically, when I use mascara, there is a certain length the lashes can extend to before the fibres start “collapsing” and refuse to stick on further, after a few coats. And as the lashes get longer and more voluminous, the weight of the fibres also tend to hold down the lashes so the curl achieved with the curler earlier may not be so prominent anymore.

With the Little Black Primer, I find that the mascara fibres are able to hold on more, so it’s possible to get more voluminous-looking lashes than you could using a mascara on its own. Length-wise, both with or without the primer work out pretty much the same. But the best part about using the Little Black Primer is that it helps the lashes hold their curl better. I notice that the curl on the lashes that had the Little Black Primer stayed on longer.

Using Estee Lauder’s Little Black Primer As A Top Coat

Interestingly, unlike using it as a primer, it doesn’t help extend the lashes further on top of the mascara that has been applied. However, it does give a glossy look and I noticed that the curl is able to hold up better when the Little Black Primer is used as a top coat (note that the effect is rather subtle).

The Estee Lauder Little Black Primer is available at all Estee Lauder counters, including its boutique located at ION Orchard, and retails at SGD40.
