It’s been just a year since Fenty Beauty was launched, and we still remember vividly the excitement of beauty enthusiasts over the huge selection of shades their foundation offers. It comes as no surprise because a great foundation that really suits you is a rare find!

M.A.C now has a foundation range with 57 shades

Since then, more and more beauty brands show that they put in a great amount of thought into providing us with foundations that we’re going to love. Last month, M.A.C announced that they have expanded their Studio Fix Fluid (SGD56) – their most iconic foundation – by adding 18 new shades to the range.

This brings the total number of shade range to 57, and it covers every undertone that you can think of.

Innisfree launches a fully customisable foundation range: My Foundation

While many brands are focused on bringing more shades to the table, Innisfree decided to offer an even more customisable experience for their foundation.

The newly launched My Foundation range allows you to also pick the moisture level and coverage intensity of your preference. You get to choose from three moisture levels: matte, semi matte, glow, three coverage levels: natural, high, full, and among 10 shades to match your skin tone.

From what we understand, the offering of 10 shades in Southeast Asia is wider than what’s offered to where the brand comes from – South Korea.

What this means is that, you can truly find a foundation that fits you – not just in terms of shade, but also the overall experience and look that you hope to achieve.

This ability to customise gives us 60 options to choose from – sounds pretty amazing, if you ask us.

But will this customisation allow me to find my “dream” foundation?

How does Innisfree My Foundation customisation process work?

I visited the Innisfree store on the day of the product launch to try My Foundation for myself.

Moisture level: For the type of finish, I decided that my dry skin needed the “Glow” option. I also like the more radiant look that it offers, which helps me give my dull complexion a perk-me-up.

Coverage: I don’t have significant blemishes to conceal, but I’m prone to redness around my nose area and have visible capillaries on my cheeks. While Natural coverage looks pretty suitable for me, I decided to opt for High Coverage so I can skip concealer altogether. Full coverage was a little too heavy for me, but I think it will work for those who have obvious blemishes.

Shade: Finally, I matched myself to the closest shade, which was surprisingly a perfect fit for me. It blended perfectly into my skin tone.

Innisfree My Foundation review: Do I like it?

Innisfree My Foundation Review 1

First, I really like the sleek and easy packaging of the product. It comes with a pump that dispenses a small amount of product that’s just sufficient for a full face. I find the formula very blendable and spreads out easily, so a little really goes a long way. If you’ve chosen the same combination as I have, take note not to be too generous with your pump.

While I sometimes use my fingers to apply foundation, I find that the best way to apply the Innisfree My Foundation (or at least the variant that I got) was with a foundation brush. It doesn’t just spread out quickly, speeding up my makeup process, but also gives an even, almost airbrushed-looking finish that I love.

Innisfree My Foundation Review

It has an amazing finish and coverage level that I love.

As a foundation that’s supposed to have a “dewy” finish, I like that it doesn’t make my skin look greasy, unlike some dewy formula out there. Instead, it looks more semi-matte, but with a nice glow to it. What this means is that, if you’re looking for something very dewy, you may not like this foundation very much. But, if you, like me, want a foundation that simply perks up the complexion, then this is definitely a dream.

What I like most about the Innisfree My Foundation was the coverage level that I have chosen. As someone who hates ultra high coverage formulas, I struggle to find a good foundation that isn’t too heavy but is able to cover minor imperfections. I felt that the High Coverage option that I picked for this foundation was a perfect fit for my preference.

The foundation is also able to last through the day for me, with little to no smudges or caking. No touch up needed!

And the best part about the My Foundation is probably its price. For the number of options that it offer, and the great experience I have with it, it is only retailing at SGD32.

As an editor of a beauty magazine, part of my job is to try out different products. So I actually have a few bottles of foundations sitting on my vanity table for me to choose from every morning. The Innisfree My Foundation has been picked up by me frequently since I got my hands on it; a testimony to how much I really enjoy using it.

We know how important foundations are in the makeup routine, and I’m glad that beauty brands are stepping up their foundation game. It can only mean that consumers will be able to find their makeup soulmate – and live happily ever after. And we should toast to that!
