Editor’s Review on KATE Powdery Skin Maker

I have combination skin, making it slightly tricky to find the perfect foundation to use. There are many products out there that I’ve tried that give me the perfect look on my U-zone, but smudge by mid-day on my T-zone. I just find it hard to keep my makeup intact, especially on my forehead!

For many years, I’ve coped with this problem by setting the makeup on my T-zone with powder. While this has indeed make my makeup stay on for longer, it gives a slightly uneven look – my T-zone looks more matte, while my U-zone may look dewy.

Kate Powdery Skin Maker Review Editor

The KATE Powdery Skin Maker seems to help resolve this troublesome problem. This lightweight product gives very good coverage that was really surprising. And as promised, it sets into a beautiful matte, powdery finish within 15 seconds. What this means is that I no longer need to set my makeup with powder – saving me some time in my routine!

Most importantly, my T-zone no longer oil up as much during mid-day and the KATE Powdery Skin Maker stayed on even on the areas that tend to be oilier. I will definitely recommend the KATE Powdery Skin Maker to those who have oily or combination skin. You’ll really appreciate how it helps you survive a hot and humid day.

Sheena Ang: I have oily skin and usually when I put on foundation, it will not be visible by mid-day. KATE’s foundation provides a powdery finish upon application and by mid day it still stays on. The oil sebum is still well-controlled. It has a lightweight feel as well and it’s very easy to blend, I have tried using fingers and brush for application and both methods work well. This is definitely the foundation that I will recommend for oily skin people, especially those that are prone to T-zone oiliness. I do not have spots but some pimples at the current moment so it does provide a little coverage. Personally I think it has little to medium coverage, however I only applied one layer and did not try to layer more. A pump of the foundation is sufficient to apply whole face, unless you would like to apply more than 1 layer.

Chew Wing Yin Esther: Overall I’m really satisfied with this product. I really like that this product powderizes, which could allow me to skip the step of applying loose powder after applying foundation. However, one downside to this product is that when applied on certain parts of my face, it tends to flake probably due to my dry areas. It also does not have very high coverage to cover the pores on my nose.

Regina Kwa: Overall, the foundation is good and I’m satisfied with it. It offers medium coverage and dries matte on the skin which is great for my oily T-zone. It also leaves a very nice finish on the skin that doesn’t look cakey at all. Highly recommend this product to people with oily skin. The only downside is that it is visibly patchier on drier spots after hours of wearing.

Annabel Yeo Yingying: I was initially skeptical about the powdery finish as it is a liquid foundation, but after trying it out for a few days, am pleasantly surprised that it lives up to its claim! The powdery finish provides a very natural look, it mattifies the skin but provides a subtle glow-from-within shine that I am a huge fan of. This foundation is definitely buildable, and am super glad that I can use it to conceal any blemishes without the use of additional concealers. Despite the humid weather, this foundation actually managed to last a good 6-7 hours and controls oil relatively well during this duration. Would definitely recommend!

Yvonne Loh Sze Wen: This foundation gives you a really pretty airbrushed, matte look. Application with a foundation brush was quick and easy. It feels comfortable on my skin as well and the oil control is great. Overall, this worked for me and I would recommend it! The only downside: Noticeable smudges appear when you sweat. If you are the type of person that wears foundation when you exercise, this might not be the right fit for you!

Lim Qi Fang: Overall, the product have live up to what it states. After application, it helps to prevent secretion of oil throughout the day. However, I notice lines on areas that are drier. So, I would recommend that you prep your skin well before applying it.

Luna Ong: It is extremely lightweight and stays throughout even the hottest of days! Best for people who need a subtle base as the coverage is really light and will not cover scars and pimples. Would definitely recommend to others as it is great for Singapore’s weather!

Anna Shari: I usually use sunscreen first and then powder base, and my makeup will be gone by the end of the day. For the KATE foundation, I notice that it stayed on even spending time in a hot kitchen cooking tom yum soup. It also doesn’t leave any residue when I touched my face, compared to when I wore my previous powder base.

Deenar Farvin: My skin type is combination and I have a oily T-Zone. With this foundation, the oil on my T-Zone is controlled for six hours, and I just need to touch up once in a day.

Nur Farjannah: I’ve been wanting to try this foundation out as I own KATE’s Powderless Liquid and Secret Skin Maker, and have been a fan of both foundations. Tested this out for a few days with only a primer, and without putting any loose powder on after applying this foundation and it managed to last throughout my entire 12-hour shift without a need to touch up. Suitable for oily skin like mine as the foundation dries to a matte finish. Product itself is blendable, and I would recommended to use a brush instead of a sponge as the product itself dries down to powder quite fast. I do recommend layering it little by little as I’ve notice if you pack on a huge amount at once, it tends to get a bit cakey whereas if you layer it bit by bit it looks much more natural and will be longer-lasting.

Lynnette Koh: For someone with very oily skin, actually this is surprising long-lasting. There’s minimal smudging and there’s still some foundation left after nine hours of wear. I find that it’s one of the better foundations I’ve tried.

Lyn Kam: I have dehydrated – oily skin. I put the product on at 7am and was super excited to see how it blended out and set so quickly. I thought that it looked good when I had completed my makeup. I tried to build up the coverage but it looked odd as it had already set.

Around 10am, I got caught in the rain and that’s where it went downhill! The foundation started melting off a little. At the end of the day, my face looked as though i hadn’t put foundation on at all; although it did keep my oil at bay! Slightly disappointed but for a short trip to the supermarket, I think I would wear it again.

Doreen Tak Yue Ling: I LOVE how this makes my skin look – it is really one of those products that you can “slap” on, or apply with any beauty tool, and it looks great. I am using shade 01. Its coverage is medium and builds up pretty well (for normal-oily skin type like myself). Have used their ‘Powderless Liquid for Cover’ range but this gives off an even nicer finish. Would highly recommend :)

Mah Yee Xin: The foundation has medium coverage, it is buildable but might be a little cakey if there are too many layers. It covers dark eye rings and redness well, but is not very good at covering pimples. It has a nice matte finish and indeed made my skin tone lighter as advertised. The foundation does a decent job in oil control, however it started to fade and got concentrated in my pores through midday, making my pores more visible.

Lim Pei Shing: I am surprised that the KATE foundation has a pretty good coverage almost comparable to my full coverage foundation. I like this foundation as it looks really natural on my face but I find that get really oily on my T-zone after having it on for 2 hours. Overall, i still liked this foundation and would wear it again but not for long hours. I hope they would expand on the shade range as the lightest shade I chose was only available in pink undertone.

Caren Foo: The new KATE Tokyo Powdery Skin Maker feels really lightweight when applied and the coverage is acceptable. It is true that it mattifies in 15 seconds but it also means I have to squeeze out bit by bit of it and apply it on my face a portion at the time, this is time-consuming. I have combination skin so maybe this doesn’t work very well for me on the oil control part and I feel greasy after wearing it for half a day. Perhaps this product is best suited for more temperate countries with colder seasons and not in humid Singapore.

Eunice Goh: I really like the product as it feels very lightweight on my face. I usually don’t use liquid foundation as they tend to be very cakey but this foundation sets to look very powdery, which is something I really like :)

Lee Yan Yan: I have some redness on my face but no pimples and I find that the coverage is enough for me. The foundation finishes matte, which I like, because I don’t like the dewy look that makes me look greasy. The packaging also looks good!
