Plump is the new skinny, says Kiehl’s. This may sound odd, but we’re not kidding. And this may be the reason why your age-defying regime isn’t working.

You may be familiar with anti-ageing creams and serums that target at eliminating the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles, but even when these issues are improved, you may still find your skin missing that “fresh” and youthful look it once had.

Finally, the word is out and dermatologists have identified recently that the missing element to that youthful look after we’ve resolved signs of ageing is the loss of moisture within the skin. Age-related dehydration can give you issues like dull, tired-looking and rough skin, and deeper laugh lines – all of which cannot be resolved directly with anti-ageing formulas because they’re actually caused by dehydration.

In other words, if we can restore moisture within our skin, it will appear plumper, hence fresher and more youthful.

With this discovery, the team of dermatologists behind Kiehl’s designed the new Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate, one of the most exciting launches of the New York brand this year.

This product is inspired by anti-ageing hydration procedures that are used by dermatologists professionally, such as Juvederm Hydrate. Formulated after 29 trials and validated with excellent hydration results that sustained over a 72-hour period, and skin penetration testing up to 10 layers of Stratum Corneum (that’s the layer of dead skin cells that accumulate on top of your skin), this product sounds promising.

How does the Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate work?

This serum has a liquid-to-serum texture and contains 15% plant-based glycerin that draws and holds water in skin to deliver fresh, dewy complexion. This is a high concentration of glycerin content in any product available in the market, especially when most products that contain glycerin use synthetic glycerin instead of plant-based ones.

As we age, our channels of moisture transportation weaken, and this product helps awaken new channels so that the skin’s elasticity can be improved. Also, with the addition of shiso leaf extract, which has been proven to protect against the degradation of Hyaluronic Acid (molecules responsible for retaining moisture in your skin) that naturally occurs in  skin, it boosts the power of glycerin in the formula so results are better.

We really like the texture of the product, which pumps out in a gel-like texture, but immediately turns into a liquid formula that spreads effortlessly across the skin and absorbs almost instantly. The fragrance-free serum leaves skin feeling very hydrated and fresh.

The Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing is now available at all Kiehl’s stores at SGD80.
