My first-ever Kiehl’s product is the Calendula Toner. I was probably 23 years old then, and was absolutely fascinated by how I could really see calendula petals at the bottom of the bottle. The toner smelt almost good enough to drink, and it made my skin feel really good. Till now, this remains as one of my favourite products, and I always go back to it whenever I’m done testing any products as part of my job as a beauty magazine editor.
Since then, I’ve always associated Kiehl’s with natural ingredients and how well they work.
This year, Kiehl’s introduced another product that I think may take over the Calendula Toner as my new favourite product. The new Iris Extract Activating Treatment Essence makes use of the Iris Florentina flower from the Mediterranean as its star ingredient. This plant blooms only three times a year, and is hand-harvested and processed into a nutrient-rich extract for this product.
Did we like the Iris Extract Activating Treatment Essence?
There have been quite a number of essences that were launched in the last few years, and many of them either have a not-so-pleasant scent, or an overly-pleasant scent. The first thing that will strike you of the Kiehl’s one, is the very subtle herbaceous scent, which is pleasant, but not overpowering.
The texture is exactly like water and gets absorbed immediately by the skin. It’ll leave behind a cooling and slightly sticky sensation. Skin also feels refreshed and smooth right after application.
This product is designed as a multi-action essence that is supposed to help activate your skin cells to boost radiance, eliminate the appearance of fine lines and dullness, provide 24-hour hydration and improve overall skin texture. What you’ll be seeing immediately after application is the hydration level that it offers, and how it perks your skin up.
The Kiehl’s Iris Extract Activating Treatment Essence is to be used after the toner, and before serum and moisturiser, two times a day. It retails at SGD68, and is available at all Kiehl’s boutiques.
