Let’s face it: we all want to look like we clocked in a full eight hours of sleep, even though we spent the night burning the midnight oil (or catching up on the latest K-drama series).
While a diligent skincare routine helps, we found an express solution that may be able to help you reinvigorate your skin almost immediately. Enter the oxygen facial, which has been the go-to treatment for that lit-from-within glow.
Keep reading as we let you in on what an oxygen facial is and its benefits before telling you all about the Korean oxygen facial we recently tried.
What is an oxygen facial, and what does it do?
Ideal for tackling dullness, breakouts, and premature ageing, an oxygen facial’s main goal is to nourish your skin and promote collagen growth by delivering oxygen directly into the skin. By doing so, it increases cell metabolism which then helps speed up cellular turnover as the skin can now shed dead cells faster and replaced them with newer, healthier ones.
Generally, oxygenated facials involve a machine that sprays highly concentrated molecules of oxygen right into the epidermis (the outer layer of your skin). All that oxygen your skin is getting is also infused with vitamins, minerals, essential nutrients, and botanical extracts, so your skin gets all the nourishment it deserves without any pain or side effects – no wonder many celebrities like going for oxygen facials to smooth, moisturise, and plump skin for a radiant glow.
Now that you know the good that oxygen facials can bring to your mien, here’s one that you can try right here in Singapore!
Daily Vanity review: Why we love Kimisoi Hydrogen and Oxygen Bubble Treatment
To find out if an oxygen facial can really deliver the benefits that it promises, Daily Vanity’s editorial intern, Natalie, tried out the Hydrogen and Oxygen Bubble Treatment at Kimisoi, a Korean botanical-based skincare brand founded by the late Kim Mi-Hyang.
Read on to learn what she enjoyed the most about Kimisoi’s Hydrogen and Oxygen Bubble Treatment.
It’s not over-complicated
Newsflash: Facials do not have to have 20 or 30 steps to be effective. Kimisoi’s Hydrogen and Oxygen Bubble Treatment, for example, has the usual steps of any regular facial: cleansing, steaming, extraction, and masking, but what sets this treatment apart is the use of oxygen spray, radiofrequency, and ultrasound to deliver much-needed nourishment while encouraging skin’s natural collagen production.
In short, the Hydrogen and Oxygen Bubble Treatment by Kimisoi is anything but basic, not just because the facial incorporates a number of technologies in the treatment but it also comes with a lymphatic facial massage and a shoulder massage in addition to a thorough skin analysis using a state-of-the-art machine to give your mien the best treatment possible.
And even though there are a few steps more in the facial, each procedure is essential and has an important function individually to bring out the best in your skin.
It uses in-house products that are effective
Kimisoi is a brand that formulates and manufactures its own line of retail skincare products, so it makes sense for all the facials offered on the menu – the Hydrogen and Oxygen Bubble Treatment included – to use Kimisoi’s range of products throughout every step of the facial treatment.
All of Kimisoi’s products are powered by ginseng together with other carefully selected complementary herbs and plant extracts to provide visible results without compromising skin’s harmony.
It involves extraction
The extraction process may not be the go-to choice especially for those with reactive skin but when done professionally, it is able to effectively clear out trapped dirt and gunk while respecting your skin’s delicate balance – and that was exactly what Natalie experienced during her Kimisoi facial thanks to her skilful facialist.
Instead of relying on just the conventional steamer to open up pores and soften blackheads and whiteheads, Kimisoi’s Hydrogen and Oxygen Bubble Treatment prepped the skin for extraction with three additional tools before the actual extraction process.
“After prepping my skin with hot steam, my facialist used a handheld skin scrubber to first get rid of existing dead skin and flakes. Then, she rehydrated my skin with an oxygen spray which helps improve blood circulation for brighter, plumper skin. Next, it was time for a handheld vacuum suction pen that further cleansed every pore on my face by lifting away all the trapped dirt and grime,” Natalie shared when recalling her experience.
With these additional steps in place, Natalie said that she had an almost painless extraction and even fell asleep as her facialist meticulously extracted as many blackheads and whiteheads as she could – that says a lot when it comes from someone who has a very low pain tolerance!
When done right, facials are the most pampering treat you can offer to your skin. Kimisoi understands that, which is why each treatment room at the salon has a zen, relaxing environment that will have no trouble lulling you to sleep as your skin gets a multi-masking session with the Kimisoi Cleansing Mask (which is used concurrently with a radiofrequency gadget) as well as a Kimisoi Paper Sheet Mask towards the end of the facial treatment for some much-deserved TLC.
During your facial, your skin will also be treated to a double dose of ultra-nourishing Kimisoi Ginseng Gel Mask which is used with the ultrasound device and also during the lymphatic facial massage step.
Bonus: It’s suitable for sensitive skin
As mentioned earlier, the Hydrogen and Oxygen Bubble Treatment is a gentle, non-invasive treatment with little to no pain, redness, and swelling. Because it is so gentle, the facial treatment is not only suitable for all skin types but also for those with sensitive, acne-prone skin like Natalie.
