Other than being known as part of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Kylie Jenner has been receiving a lot of attention for her lips and her always-out-of-stock Kylie Lip Kits. The kit comes with a liquid lipstick and a matching lip pencil to go along with it. It’s so popular that every time it restocks, it sells out within MINUTES.
Many beauty bloggers have tried it and given their opinions about it. But a beauty vlogger said what many didn’t – that it has the exact ingredient list and texture as the Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lips. The catch? Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lips only costs USD6 while Kylie’s Lip Kit costs USD29. Even if you purchase an additional Colourpop Lippie Pencil to go along with the Ultra Matte Lips, that would have only set you back by a total of USD11.
She even went through the hassle of looking through both products’ ingredients lists, and uploaded them on her Instagram account! We originally saw it from this article.
While it’s great getting insights from an international beauty blogger, it’s always great to hear from someone who’s more relatable in a local context. So we did our own research and here’s what we found. Yes, we managed to get a hold of the Kylie Lip Kit that is now sold out on the official website. We also got our hands on Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lip in Lumiere 2, which is rumoured to be the dupe for Posie K, the shade that we managed to get hold of. Read on to see how the two face off!
We found that Lumiere 2 is not the exact dupe for Posie K. Lumiere 2 has a more purplish undertone while Posie K has a more pinkish undertone.
However, when applied on the lips, the difference is not as stark as the hand swatch.
Posie K was slightly runnier than Lumiere 2. It dried so much quicker, allowing little to no time to properly blend out your lip shade. Here’s where things get uncannily similar. Both the lip products felt exactly the same upon application, they had the same finish, the same applicator, and both made my lips as dry as a desert (I own a couple of other Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lips and they tend to suck my lips dry of its moisture)– basically both of them looked exactly the same on my lips apart from the slight difference in colour.
If I had left on the shades on longer, I would have probably forgotten that I paid so much more money for one of them as compared to the other. The difference in texture is close to none.
We also took the liberty to read and compare the ingredients list from both boxes. Kylie’s Lip Kit had slightly lesser ingredients, but we’re pretty sure that 98% of the ingredients were exactly the same.
What do other beauty enthusiasts who have tried both thought
The Kylie Lip Kit dries up faster and its consistency is runnier than Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lips. But they feel really similar!
Dayang, Beauty Vlogger
I prefer the Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip because it blended out much more evenly, and is creamier in texture as compared to Kylie’s Lip Kit.

Save some money, and settle for the Colourpop Ultra Matte Lips. For the same consistency and a wider colour selection, you’re better off saving that money to purchase other things. The fact that I can get a liquid lipstick for around SGD13-SGD15 makes me feel like there’s no need for me to spend SGD65* on the Kylie Lip Kit. While both of them are incredibly drying on the lips, matte lipstick lovers like myself would appreciate it.
Give the Kylie Lip Kit a pass if you’re on a budget. If you’re a beauty junkie and you MUST own and try at least one of these highly-raved-about Kylie Lip Kits, go ahead because we TOTALLY understand how you feel!
Do you own both the Kylie Lip Kit and Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lip?
Let us know your thoughts are!
* As we purchased it from a Carousell seller, price is as such due to conversion rate (USD29 ≈ SGD40), shipping fees to Singapore and the fact that the sellers have to camp in front of the laptop to make sure they get some before it goes out of stock.
We got our Colourpop Ultra Matte Lips in Lumiere 2 and Kylie Lip Kit in Posie K from a seller on Carousell. Alternatively, you can head over to websites such as shopping-district.net and comamakeup.com. You can also purchase the Colourpop Ultra Matte Lips directly from the Colourpop website via a mail forwarding service of your choice.
