I’ve been grateful for Korean BB creams for a long time and when I first used a “BB cushion” (by Laneige) a few years ago, I thought it was a dream come true.
What Is A BB Cushion?
A BB cushion is special in that it comes in the form of a compact (as opposed to a tube), with a cushion that’s generously soaked with BB foundation. A special accompanying sponge is packed with the compact to pick up the formula. This innovation combines the multi-tasking benefits of BB cream with the convenience of a compact for touch-up.
Improving on this technology is the Sulwhasoo Evenfair Perfecting Cushion, which offers, not just the convenience, but also long-lasting coverage and flawless finish.
Does This Work?
Compared to what I’ve used before, this formula indeed gives better coverage that still looks like skin. This is thanks to the Inner Dispersion Technology that was harnessed in the formula. The technology is inspired by the “water colour method” of diffusing pigments in water instead of oil. This means that the emulsion can be smoothed onto skin more evenly, without caking. I also find that it makes the formula glides onto skin more smoothly.
The finish is also lightweight yet long-lasting. It promises up to 12 hours of wear, but I’d say it’s probably more realistic to say it still looks fairly decent on the skin even after eight hours.
Another point that’s amazing is its delivery of SPF50/PA+++ protection – definitely one of the highest I’ve seen when it comes to foundation. And to think that it can remain so lightweight even with such high sun protection factor is just amazing.
While I can’t attest to whether it helps with brightening or wrinkle correction, as it claims, because it isn’t easy to quantify after just a few wear, I do agree that it’s hydrating, thanks to the inclusion of the traditional Korean Herbal Hydrator (White Lily, Peony, Solomon’s Seal, East India & Lotus, Adhesive Rehmannia). In fact, because of the herbal composition, the brand claims that skin’s moisture increases by 40% after regular use.
But whether or not it truly delivers the skincare benefits that it promises, I’m still going to stand by this formula because I like the makeup prowess it has shown. This is definitely my go-to foundation on those special days that I need to look flawless for an extended period of time.
