From BB to CC creams (and now, we heard, even a DD cream), the beauty world is definitely spoilt for choice when it comes to bases. However, I believe we should always get the basics right, instead of pursuing the “next big thing”.
The new Big Easy by Benefit Cosmetics seem to be headed in that direction. This base cream doesn’t just deliver the convenience of a BB, it also addresses what we are constantly looking out for, especially in this part of the world where it’s constantly hot and humid: a foundation that balances moisture and controls oil.
On top of this, the new technology that Benefit has introduced to this product is a cushiony liquid-to-powder formula so that it melts in like a cream, but finishes lightweight and velvety like a powder. Sounds amazing.
The Big Easy comes in six shades but claims to “self adjust”. This, to me, sounded like an oxymoron at first, but I think I’ve eventually understood what it’s trying to do. Six shades may sound extensive enough – you’ve seen how many brands have foundation in six shades, but you’d probably also notice that while you can find the closest shade to you, it may not always be a perfect fit. In the case of Big Easy, you choose the shade that’s closest to your skin tone, but the formula helps to adjust it to your exact shade to make it a perfect fit.
I love the finish of the cream, which makes my complexion look even and radiant. It is also natural-looking, so it doesn’t look like I’ve piled on tons of product on my face. The lightweight finish also helps in this hot and humid weather.
When I first applied it, I felt that it could potentially be too “dry” on my skin, which is a little dehydrated. But as it lasts through the day, I appreciate how my face generally remains matte throughout the day. My T-zone may appear slightly shiny at the end of the day, but just a little powdering clears up the grease easily, without looking cakey.
Big Easy is available at all Benefit counters and boutique, and at Sephora, and retails at SGD60.
