Ever the consummate shopper, Singaporeans are known for spotting a good product miles away, and wouldn’t mind travelling just to get their hands on a good deal. This applies to beauty products from UK beauty/pharmaceutical chain Boots, which most of us will stock up on whenever we’re in Thailand – its nearest stores to us. With the launch of Boots at Guardian outlets here, you won’t have to fly three hours to get your supply of beauty products from the brand.
Despite carrying several other brands in their store, what’s worth noting is that its house brand products can give the more expensive high-end brands a run for their money. Two of its all-time bestsellers stood out for me: the Dermocare 24Hr Moisturising Gel and No.7 Protect & Perfect Intense Serum. Both hypoallergenic products, they are fragrance-free and suitable for use on sensitive skin.
Made with Hyaluronic Acid, Adansonia Digitata and Viola Tricolour extracts, the moisturising gel feels slightly thicker than the other gel moisturiser variants I’ve tried before, which is not a bad thing as I feel the balmy sensation it leaves on my face locks in moisture, giving it longer lasting hydration. The formula also contains multi-minerals and Pumpkin extract to supply the skin with additional nutrients and immunity against environmental stressors, which helps to slow the symptoms of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles. Although it’s supposed to be a day moisturiser, I don’t see any issue with using it overnight to give your complexion a daily boost and wake up to fresh, dewy skin every morning.
On the serum, my first impression was that it is meant for mature skin which has to deal with deep wrinkles and folds, as the product name has “intense” in it. After testing out the product on the back of my hand, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the lightweight serum is intense in its effect, and not harsh in any way, with a milky texture that coats your skin with a natural healthy sheen. Used in combination with the moisturising gel, the effect is gentle but obvious: a smoother, brighter complexion which feels just a little bouncier to the touch. Definitely a sensation I could get used to, after a couple of late nights out celebrating over the festive season (but thankfully not looking it)!
