High-tech, efficient training gear that delivers a toned abdominal area is the SIXPAD‘s promise. Inspired by global football icon Cristiano Ronaldo, and driven by cutting-edge Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) Technology, the SIXPAD is an effort to bring additional efficiency to your exercise regime, cutting down on the time needed to tone and and gain abdominal definition.

In order to find out how effective it was, I took on the challenge and used the SIXPAD for an entire month.

Great Packaging, Complex Setup

The SIXPAD’s design is visually elegant, but functionally challenging to set up. The device is shaped almost like a lilypad, and looks intuitive enough for you to quickly understand general usage. Off the bat, the device signals its aim of giving you six-packs.

The front of this device is where you can operate it. The device is simple: Hold down the “+” sign to switch it on, then click either the “+” or “-” signs to adjust the intensity of the electrical pulses. While this face of the device is almost dummy-proof, the rear of this device required more effort from me to figure out.

Initial setup will take you a while, as the device requires you to stick special adhesive pads on them, then install a battery. The unit comes with six adhesive pads for you to place on the six contact points on the device. You’ll need to do this carefully, as there aren’t any extra ones out of the box. After you’re done, you’ll need to open up the battery compartment in the middle with a coin-shaped device that comes with the SIXPAD, and insert a Lithium button cell battery.

How EMS works

Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) works exactly how you’d think it does.

The SIXPAD’s EMS engine was developed by Professor Toshio Moritani, an expert in the field of EMS. Prof. Moritani has over 30 years of research, focused on understanding how EMS training affects muscles. After rigorous testing to verify his results, he determined that a 20Hz frequency is needed for effective muscle training. Prof. Moritani incorporated this knowledge into the SIXPAD device.

The SIXPAD uses a variety of EMS pulse patterns during a 20-minute period. It’s easy to use: just stick the SIXPAD onto your abdomen, switch it on and let it run. The electrical pulses will cause your abdominal muscles to tighten involuntarily, so it’s sort of like doing sit-ups, but without actually moving. You could just sit down and let the SIXPAD work while you watch TV, work on your computer or read a book. It’s really convenient and perfect for the busy executive.

Does it work?

I’m sure you’re curious as to whether it works or not. After 30 days, I can tell you that you won’t have sculpted abs like Cristiano Ronaldo. His abs of steel were sculpted through endless workout sessions and a strict diet.

However, in the short month that I’ve been using the SIXPAD, I’ve definitely seen some effect. At this point, I need to say that while I’ve not changed my diet, I returned to my regular workout schedule after a few months of inactivity. I was definitely not toned, so it was perfect for this experiment, I guess. I used the SIXPAD every day for 30 days.

It’s a bit flatter, and while I would have achieved this with a proper exercise plan and diet, I’d say that the SIXPAD accelerated the process by at least two weeks. So, the SIXPAD isn’t a replacement for your workout regime, and you’ll definitely not get abs solely by using the SIXPAD. Instead, it is an augmentation and an accelerator, perfect for use on days in between workouts. Remember, you’ll have to use it consistently, together with exercise, to see some serious effects.
