While most brides-to-be fuss over their skincare regime, makeup and hair, I have been giving some thought to what perfume I’m wearing on my big day. Fragrances have always been an important part of my life (and you could probably tell from the massive collection I’ve acquired over the years) because I feel they help encapsulate memories and alter your mood.
Let me share more about what I mean. I’m not sure if you notice how smelling something familiar brings you back to a certain time in your life – the smell of a favourite childhood snack, an ex-boyfriend’s perfume, or the familiar “signature” smell of a shopping mall, can take you back to memories, whether they’re happy or not.
Just like how scent can trigger memories, it can also change your mood. The scent of lemongrass at the spa, for instance, can instantly set you in a relaxed state of mind.
And this is why the choice of perfume on my wedding day matters to me.
Here are some tips to picking out the perfume for your wedding day:
- Trigger that loving memory of the first date or first kiss with your groom. Wear the perfume that you wore on that special day and bask in the memories of love as you walk down the aisle.
- Do you have a go-to perfume that never fail to uplift your spirits and make you feel relaxed and happy whenever you wear it? This may just be what you should wear to get yourself “in the mood” – I mean, as it is, your wedding day is going to be a little stressful and hectic, you’ll need every bit of help you can get!
- Is there a perfume that he’s said he likes on you? Dab that on to as a sign of love for him and I’m sure he’s going to remember all the sweet things you’ve done during your courtship when he steals a kiss on your cheek at the wedding.
- Do you have a special flower that you’ll be using at the wedding? If it’s also available in a perfume, wearing the perfume will help enhance the smell of the flowers you’ve chosen.
As for me, I’m probably choosing one of these:
Valentina by Valentino
This is the fragrance that I wore in our first few dates and have somewhat become my signature scent to him. While I’ve since worn different fragrances to our other date, this scent still has a special place in our hearts.
Carven Le Parfum
This is an elegant scent that never fails to make me feel more confident and refined. Every bride wants to look and feel her best on that special day, and I think this will be my potion to feeling fabulous.
Elizabeth Arden Untold
Keith loves this scent on me and can’t help to get close whenever I wear this. Moreover, it is a pretty scent that I think go perfectly with a gorgeous gown.
