Applying blusher can be rather intimidating. At times, expectation and reality can be furthest from each other. With so many ways to wear blush, it may sometimes be hard to figure out what is best for you.

expectations vs reality.001

We have compiled five different ways to wear blush, as well as some of our favourite blushers that you can pick up to achieve these looks.

1. Under your eyes

This is the “sickly” Japanese look, where you apply blusher directly under your eyes. Apparently, the red around the eye will give the impression that the wearer is slightly unwell or that she has been crying and is in need of looking after. If the cute, helpless damsel look appeals to you, try this!

2. On the apples of your cheeks

For individuals with square-shaped faces, soften your features by drawing attention to the roundest part of your face – that should be the apples of your cheek.

DV Tip

Using your finger, place it at the side of your mouth and along the laugh line to indicate where the blush colour should stop.

3. Top of your Cheekbones

If you have a diamond-shaped face, the goal is definitely to draw attention to the bottom half of your face. Apply the blush along the top of your cheekbones to make your features pop.

4. Bottom of your Cheekbones

Applying blush to the bottom of your cheekbone will help you contour your face. If you have a heart-shaped face, applying blush to the bottom of your cheekbone will help balance a strong jawline by bringing attention to your cheekbones.

5. On your eyelids

Yes! You read that right! If you’re not a big fan of eyeshadow and don’t want to invest in one, you can apply blusher on your eyelids on days you want to give your eyes that additional pop of colour to look more awake instantly. So the next time you are left with nothing but a blusher, be assured that you will still be able to have a complete makeup look.
