We understand how sleep-starved you can be because there are just too many things to juggle in life. 30 minutes of sleep is probably better than spending 30 minutes in slapping on makeup in the morning.
But you have no more excuse after reading these expert tips by Bobbie Ng. The resident trainer at The Makeup Room is a veteran in the makeup industry for local and international theatre productions, including her involvement in plays such as Dim Sum Dollies and Broadway Beng. She has also worked with prominent fashion houses including Emporio Armani, Louis Vuitton, Issey Miyake and Chanel.
She shares with us tips to completing a simple makeup in less than 5 minutes using Collection, a UK makeup brand that has recently arrived in Singapore and stocked at The Makeup Room:
For quick makeup, we need to first identify which are the important aspects to be highlighted or concealed. To instantly look fresh, dark circles and any unevenness on the skin has to be concealed. There also has to be a bit of colour on the cheeks to give the face a pop of colour while the eyes must look awake.
The steps involved could be:
Step 1 – Conceal dark circles (1 minute) using Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer, which really helps achieve a flawless complexion.
Step 2 – Add a powder foundation mainly on the T-zone and the front of face (30 seconds). This helps to keep skin matte and even out the skin tone. I use the Ultimate Fix Foundation from Collection.
Step 3 – Add eyeliner, curl lashes, and apply mascara. (2 minutes) It’s important to curl lashes because it helps to open the eyes. An eyeliner like the Collection Extreme 24Hr Felt Tip Liner in Black adds definition to the eyes. For mascara, I like the Collection Longer Lash Mascara in Black.
Step 4 – Apply blusher on apples of the cheeks (30 seconds). Blusher adds colour to the skin and prevents it from looking pale or dull.
Step 5 – Spray a makeup fix over the entire face to prevent makeup from wearing off (5 seconds). I use the Collection Fix Me Up Long Lasting Makeup Spray. This help ensure makeup last longer and we don’t have to constantly retouch makeup.
To spice up your look, try using different colours for each step. For example, change up your look with pink lips and wing your eyeliner. Other great combinations: Orange lips and brown shadow; nude lips and silver eyeshadow; and glitter liner with red lips. As long as the colours are changed, the makeup will look different. And given that Collection has a vast variety of colours to choose from, it shouldn’t be that hard!
I think it’s very important to see what matters to you. For me, looking bright and not having dark circles matters, so I will focus on that. For others, it may be important to have eyeliner. In that case, you may want to play with a different coloured liner, or even to wear your eyeliner in a different style every day. We must first know ourselves well to determine the type of makeup we want to use on ourselves, then plan accordingly.
