It’s the time of the year once again! When the office get-togethers and school parties happen, and you meet up with friends you’ve not seen since the New Year. Here are four ways to not look like you’ve just emerged from the chimney after a long day!
“Santa Baby, so hurry down the chimney tonight ~”
1. Treat your hair like your baby
A woman’s hair is her crowning glory. Giving your hair the tender loving care it needs is the best way to exterminate bad hair days from its root! Whether you have thick, fine or coarse hair, follow these steps diligently and you’ll be on your way to luscious-looking tresses.
Step 1: Shampoo
It is not necessary to wash your hair every day. If you find yourself needing to shampoo often to wash away the build up of oil (even if you follow the next three steps), your shampoo may not be suitable for you. Another tip: Keep your hair hydrated and you are more likely to ditch all women’s nightmare – the flat, oily hair.
Step 2: Condition
Conditioning is the most basic step for restoring your hair’s moisture. Skip this and you’ll face the problem of having to shampoo your hair more often (further stripping its moisture) as your scalp and the roots of your hair gets oily quicker. It’s a vicious cycle!
Step 3: In-shower Treatment
Or what we’d like to call “our personal hair spa”. Let your hair soak in nourishing goodness at least once a week. If you’re a lazy person, go for products that require only one to two minutes.
Step 4: Leave-on treatment
Arm your bag or work space with hair lotions/oils/serums to save your tresses from any unexpected frizzy monsters. This writer’s current favourites are the Goldwell Elixir Oil Treatment and Innisfree Camellia Essential Hair Mist. If you have curly hair, try out L’Oreal’s new Evercurl Hydracharge Leave-In Cream.
2. Your ultimate weapon – dry shampoo
For your upcoming Christmas parties, avoid flat hair by arming yourself with dry shampoo. For more convenience, dry shampoo also comes in powder form you can transfer into smaller bottles that would fit even the smallest of purses. (Check out Giovanni Powder Power Dry Shampoo.)
A good dry shampoo brings instantaneous volume and lightweight feeling to your hair, making you look (and feel) as if you have just shampooed and conditioned your otherwise limp strands.
As much as they have brought us joy, we’ve had many experiences that are disappointing or simply a nightmare. Hair that looks grey is a common complaint for people with darker hair. Spray or sprinkle the dry shampoo near the roots of your hair and let it do its magic (of soaking up the oil) for a few minutes before brushing off the excess thoroughly.
Dry shampoo may become a nightmare when they feel heavy, just like having wax or hairspray in your hair. But you can safely put your bet on KMS California HairPlay Makeover Spray and Percy & Reed Radiance Revealing Invisible Dry Shampoo.
3. Re-workable hairstyles
Hairspray is, by far, the most common solution for hair to last through the day and night (and yes, even chimneys). However, it is also most dreaded when you have to wash your hair multiple times before you are ready to hit the sheets.
Try a hairstyling wax or cream with a reworkable formula. This allows you to have more flexibility with your hair throughout your Christmas party and is less stubborn in the shower. Be it a milkmaid braid or quirky side bun, you can always switch them up with something effortless such as a loose side braid at any time of the day.
4. Rock it with a hat
If Christmas get-together with your girlfriends includes some sun and fun, why not rock your look with a hat? Head gears are a sure way to up the fun element in your outfit. Most importantly, they are an easy accessory to throw on, saving precious brain cells and time needed to style your hair.
Check out popular YouTuber Jenn’s (clothesencounters) social media channels and be inspired to be a fan of hats as crazy as she is. Pair your casuals with the classy Fedora, Cowboy and the Bowler, or top it off with the spunky Beret, Beanie or the Newsboy cap; there’s always something to play with!
Psst… they can also hide any limp oily hair if you run out of dry shampoo…
Now you can let your hair down and let the Christmas celebrations begin!
