Enlarged pores give the appearance of poor complexion, not just because of rough texture, but also because the depressions cause shadows to be formed on the skin, making skin look less radiant. Makeup also tend to look less flattering when we are grappling with pore issues.
Why do we get enlarged pores?
According to ETUDE HOUSE’s Trainer, Celine Cheang, enlarged pores are caused by over-excessive oil secretion through the sebaceous glands. Too much oil rushing out from the pores cause an over-stretching of skin over time, because the skin starts to lose elasticity.
Celine also says that the Singapore climate doesn’t help things. “Heat and humidity will aggravate the sebaceous glands and sweat glands, causing them to produce more sebum and sweat.”
What can we do to visibly reduce pores?
If you, like most people, don’t know where to begin, we have an effective solution for you: a comprehensive skincare regime targeted at pore management.
Here are more tips and recommendations from Celine for you to pore over:
1. Cleanse and exfoliate
This may be the most basic step, but it’s really the most important step too! Pores that are clogged may appear larger than they actually are. Ace your cleansing regime and exfoliate regularly to get rid of dead skin cells and other gunk that clog your pores.
Typically, besides using a daily cleanser, we also use a weekly scrub for exfoliation. The problem is that it’s easy to forget our weekly exfoliation. Look for a cleanser that doubles up as an exfoliator for daily use so you don’t have to worry about missing your weekly routine anymore!

4. Control sebum
Keeping sebum at bay is an important step in ensuring your pore issue is managed.
“Regulate sebum production first, if you want to improve the skin condition,” advised Celine.
While removing oil from your skin with blotting papers throughout the day can help temporarily mattify your skin, it is troublesome and is not a sustainable solution. Opt for a product that really solves the excessive sebum production issue thoroughly.
5. It’s not complete without a clay mask
