With so many primers in the market, it can get quite difficult to narrow down to one that you know will work for your skin. Almost every brand carries their own primer and for you to try each and every one of them to find the perfect primer (for you) can get time consuming- and face it- you’re going to burn a huge hole in your pocket.
Daily Vanity has narrowed down the top five face primers that are fool-proof and does exactly what a primer should do.
Why do I need a primer?
Primers help to reduce the look of pores on your face. By doing so, it will ensure that your foundation will not settle into your pores. It also fills up the fine lines on your face- like at the outer part of your eyes (your smile lines) and under your eyes. With that said, it helps your foundation and concealer go on smoother. Lastly, it helps keep your makeup in place so it’ll last a longer!
Now, onto the top five face primers.
1. Benefit The Porefessional
This is a favourite product of many in the beauty community. It fills in your pores and fine lines, keeps your makeup in place and to some extent, help control the oil on your face throughout the day. It has a lemonade-ish scent to it, with a soft texture that blends effortlessly onto the skin.
Just squeeze a pea sized amount out and apply it on the areas where you would want to hide your pores and fine lines, or on the areas where you get oily most. The trick to this product is to apply it like you would a moisturiser, and then take your middle and ring finger to gently tap the product into your skin so that the product really fills in those pores.
Benefit The Porefessional Primer retails for SGD 47 and is available at Sephora, Benefit counters and the Benefit flagship store at Westgate Mall, Jurong East.
2. Smashbox Photo Finish Light Foundation Primer
The Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, as the name suggests, is the primer to use when you’re intending to take a lot of photos or if you’re going to be filming a video. This primer, however, is a silicone-based primer. Silicone based primers usually do a better job at filling up pores (especially large ones), but not everyone will like the texture of it. It’s a great primer, but it also depends on your preference if you like or are comfortable with a silicone-based primer.
3. Too Faced Primed and Poreless
This is another silicone-based primer. It has almost the same texture as the previous two we’ve mentioned earlier and it does basically the same thing. Out of the three, it is not as silicone-ish as the Smashbox primer but it still does its job!
4. Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch
If you’re not a fan of the silicone texture, you’ll probably like the last two primers. The Clarins primer does a good job in smoothing out the skin and fill up pores. However, one thing that this primer does that the others don’t is calm redness. It is a good primer for blemished or red skin. It’s also a favourite of UK makeup artists and beauty gurus, Pixiwoo (Source)
5. Clinique Superprimer Face Primers
Now, this is not just a primer- but a line of primers. Clinique came up with their Superprimer Face Primers that are available in six shades. These different shades have different purposes. There’s the universal one, the one that corrects dullness, colour corrects redness and many more. This primer is also water-based.
