No matter where we’re going, slipping on a protective face mask has become a part of our routine. With half of our faces covered while out and about, the way we do our makeup has started to change alongside everything else.

Most lip products, blushes, and highlighters are now relegated to home use. And since foundation can clog our pores with extended periods of mask-wearing, it isn’t the best idea to put on base makeup either. However, there’s still plenty of real estate around our eyes, so why not get a little creative?

To see how we can switch up our makeup routines, Daily Vanity asked five professional makeup artists to show us a few stunning, easy-to-create eye makeup looks to wear with a mask. Get ready for lashings of mascara, smokey eyeliner, and plenty of glitter.

“I am really into a more creative eye look lately. It’s time to have fun with coloured eyeliner and experiment with different textures on the eyes like soft glitters – anything that draws attention. I have always loved a smoked eyeliner. It’s a very easy look that will emphasise your eyes in a delicate way.”

1. I used the Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Glittersweet from the limited-edition Gold Collection along the lash line and smoked it out with a brush (You can use your fingers too).

2. Then I added a touch of Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Pewter Please! on the inner corners of the eyes. These shades of Highliner are on the neutral side which is perfect for a day look, but they also have very fine glitters in them that really make the eyes pop.

3. I amped it up with the Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette in Extra-vagance. I first blended the shade ‘I Have’ a crease brush all over the lid.

4. Then, I added the shade ‘True’ over the eyeliner and blended it outwards to the crease.

5. I added more intensity with ‘Love’ on the upper and lower lash line.

6. I then applied ‘The One’ with my finger in the centre of the lid to create dimension.

7. Finish the eye look with a good coat of At Lash’d Lifting & Volumizing Mascara and your eyes are ready to shine!

“When you’re doing an exaggerated eye shape, it’s important to use bronzy shades such as warm golds and corals. Apply the eyeshadow wider than how you normally would to make it look more chic and vibrant. With this makeup look, your brows are also important; make sure they are brushed up and well-defined.”

2. Then, I added some coral glitter to the centre of the eyes using the Shadow Duo in No.10 ALLURING. I used my fingertip to make sure that the glitter adhered to the eyes well. I also used a small eyeshadow brush to apply the same glitter on the corner of the eyes.

Eye makeup looks to wear with a mask: Classic neutral eye

By Lori Taylor Davis, Global Pro Lead Artist for Smashbox

Eye Makeup Looks Mask Smashbox

“Keeping it simple is always a go-to. I love to play with colour, but I’ve been trying to go back to my makeup staples. We have a Cover Shot Palette called the Minimalist Palette that is the most perfect set of neutrals – anything in that palette is made to wear together.

Neutrals always perform, so you don’t have to worry about what you are going to wear or what lipstick you’ll add to your look. The colours in the palette simply enhance your eye shape and your natural personality. After the eyeshadow, I simply add eyeliner and mascara. It’s simple but it looks so polished.”
