Research has shown that foods that contain antioxidants and vitamin C, for instance, can help you appear younger. Time to include these seven foods in your diet:
1. Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are high in beta-carotene and it balances the skin’s pH levels. It’s known to combat dryness and promote skin cell turnover, which means that eating sweet potatoes can help smooth your skin out.
2. Wild salmon
Salmon sashimi lovers or poached salmon lovers, keep it up! The pigment in salmon that gives it its colour has astaxanthin, which fights off free radicals, rogue molecules that damage cell membranes and DNA – all of which cause your skin to age. Basically, eating salmon helps fight ageing skin. Sashimi, anyone?
3. Tomatoes
The red pigment in tomatoes helps shield the skin from sun damage. Think of tomatoes as SPF – but instead of applying it on the surface of the skin, it works from the inside.
4. Citrus fruits
Oranges, limes and lemons are amazing because they are packed with Vitamin C and just like tomatoes, it helps to protect the skin from harmful UV rays.
5. Berries
Berries. Very vague right? Well that’s because ALL BERRIES ARE GOOD FOR YOU! Berries are packed with antioxidants that fight ageing. The darker the berries, the better.
6. Broccoli
Not everyone loves broccoli. But for the sake of looking and feeling young (and healthy, of course), start introducing it into your diet. Broccoli gives energy and helps boost your immune system. It’s also packed with Vitamin C and contains sulforaphane, which helps aid in liver detoxing.
7. Low-fat yoghurt
Yoghurt boosts your immunity and it helps ward off sun damage. It helps to reduce the appearance of skin wrinkling and has contains calcium too!
