The world has their eyes on new films that are screened at the Cannes Film Festival, Daily Vanity has our eyes on the makeup and hair that the celebrities who attended the event are sporting.

Today, we share with you the hairdos that caught our attention.

Let your hair down

Carey-Mulligan - premiere of The Great Gatbsy

Great hairstyles don’t need to be complicated and hard-to-replicate. At the premiere of The Great Gatsby, Carey Mulligan sported a neat centre parting and the rest of her hair neat and loose. The laidback look draws attention to her bright red lips, and definitely made her stand out from the rest of the celebs who are wearing updos (yawn!).

Braid a crown

Berenice-Bejo-photo call for the past

It’s not to say that we disapprove of updos. It is absolutely fine if you wear it like Berenice Bejo at the photo call for The Past. She wears an updo with a braid atop her head, looking like she’s wearing a crown. This eye-catching look seems perfect for a star-studded event, just as it would have looked right in place at a beach party.

Go matchy matchy

Freida-Pinto-premiere of the bling ring

Another way to get updos right – do it like Freida Pinto did at the premiere of The Bling Ring. She tied her hair up in a side chignon, with fringe swept to the side and old-Hollywood-glam-wavy. The detail that won our hearts – dragonfly clips that go with her dress and completed the look.

Schoolgirl charm

Emma-Watson-appearance on the Le Grand Journal Canal + TV stage

Emma Watson channeled schoolgirl charm with a side plait. To avoid looking too much like an underaged girl, learn from the young actress and wear a dark berry shade lipstick that makes her look more sultry. We’d think that an embellished hair tie would have looked even better with this hairdo for a formal event like the Cannes Film Festival.

It’s (kinda) complicated

From the front it looks like a half-updo, but when Cheryl Cole turns around, you’d notice that it’s actually a very pretty loose French braid. If you know how to do a French braid, it’s actually not that tough to get this right.

We’ll be talking about makeup next. Remember to watch this space!
