The brains behind Benefit Cosmetics are twins.

A pair of farm girl twins from Indiana, Jean and Jane Ford, flipped a coin to decide what business venture they were going to embark on together. Thankfully, the result of the coin flip got them to start Benefit Cosmetics. If not, we wouldn’t be able to use our favourite Porefessional primer and get our brows done by the Benefit Brow Professionals! Yikes!

They were models and are also professional makeup artists.

Benefit Cosmetics was originally known as “The Face Place”.

Hmmm, now we start to wonder if The Face Shop got their inspiration from Benefit’s original name.

Benetint was initially named “Rose Tint”.

The first bottle of “Rose Tint” was sold to an exotic dancer.

The twins decided to rename their store Benefit because they wanted the word “Bene” to be in it after a trip to Italy. “Bene” in Italian means good or well.

If you are not aware by now, brows are important in framing your eyes and face! A good brow makes all the difference.

As you may know, Benefit is also known for their famous brow bars. These brow bars are manned (and wo-manned, get it?) by brow shaping experts who will give you brows if you have a lack of it, and tame your brows if they’re getting a little out of hand.

Just when you thought they’re your regular brow experts, Benefit is in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2012 for the most eyebrow waxes in eight hours by a team! We highly doubt they did a bad job despite the time crunch.

Their motto is “Makeup doesn’t have to be serious to look good.” The twins believe that laughter is the best cosmetic. Now you know why their products have such adorable names!
