If you have been intending to (re)visit Dr. Benjamin Yim’s famous Clinical Aesthetics & Laser Centre a visit, you may be shocked to find that it is closed and no longer operating at its old location in Forum Orchard.

Whether you are an old patient who hasn’t visited in some time and want to find Dr Yim, or have heard about him and want to know where you can find him, here’s the good news: you can still find Dr Yim in Orchard – but at IDS’ first-ever flagship outlet!

For those who haven’t heard, Dr Yim, the former director of Clinical Aesthetics & Laser Centre, actually shuttered his successful long-running practice to join his personal friend, Dr SK Tan, at IDS Flagship Store. This store includes the medical aesthetics brand’s medi-spa arm (IDS Aesthetics) and medical aesthetics clinic (IDS Clinic).

Daily Vanity was curious and wanted to find out why Dr Yim decided to close his own practice and merge with IDS, so we spoke to him over an email interview to find out more about the reason behind this unexpected merger, what he will be bringing to the IDS Flagship Store, as well as the treatments that he thinks will be highly sought-after this year:

Could you share with us why you have decided to merge with IDS Clinic after running your own clinic for 15 years?

Dr SK Tan has always been at the forefront of formulations and skincare. I believe he is the only practising doctor who formulates in Singapore and that’s a great thing because his skincare complements his aesthetic procedures, and there’s vertical integration of faster turnaround for reformulation, rather than using private label formulas.

In addition, IDS is well-organised, very successful and has a good track record, and they have a strong medi-spa whereas my practice was mainly on the clinic side. So when you have the clinic, and you have a medi-spa and then you have your own skincare, you can offer customers a more holistic suite of products and services.

What can we look forward to from the merger?

I have 20 years of experience and Dr Tan has more than 40 years, so we have come together to upgrade our treatment protocols based on our collective experience.

The first one available to customers will be the laser protocol which now includes the application of treatment solutions and a LED light mask treatment. It has been proven to deliver better and longer-lasting results.

In terms of approach, will Dr. Benjamin Yim in the namesake clinic be different from Dr. Benjamin Yim in IDS Clinic?

After the merger, we have adopted some of the better practices from IDS.

The style of practice is essentially still the same, as the standards of care for aesthetic problems have not changed too much in the last few years.

We understand that Dr. Benjamin Yim Clinic offered a variety of in-house products – will these also be available for sale after the merger, or will all products used and sold in IDS Clinic be exclusively from IDS Skincare?

The treatment services have expanded as a result of the merger but IDS Skincare products will be offered as the only exclusive in-house brand – reason being that IDS Skincare is formulated by our own doctor and manufactured in Singapore.

What’s more, patients also like the results they have achieved with IDS Skincare products.

What are some aesthetic treatments that you predict will be highly-sought-after in 2020?

In general, minimally-invasive skin tightening and whitening treatments for the face and neck will remain highly sought after.

For the face, it will be Thermage FLX for skin tightening and Ultherapy, Pico laser, and injectables like derma fillers and Botox.

For the body, it will be CoolSculpting for non-invasive fat reduction. In addition, we are also planning to increase the range of non-invasive body treatments in IDS Clinic.
