Love it or hate it, there’s no denying that the Dyson Supersonic Hairdryer revolutionised the haircare industry. And while that may be a pretty tough act to follow, the launch of Dyson’s Airwrap styler might just blow it out of the water completely.
Utilising technology that relies on air rather than extreme heat, this all-in-one hair tool is powered by Dyson’s V9 Motor.
What it does is that it dries wet hair using a phenomenon known as the Coanda effect, which releases bursts of air to follow the curved surface of the curling rod. The difference in air pressure, in turn, gets hair to latch onto the curler. Nice!
The fun doesn’t end there: with several different attachments available, you’re able to curl, wave, smooth and dry your hair, depending on your needs.
The only requirement? Wet hair. Because the styler uses air instead of heat, a certain amount of dampness is needed to style your locks.
Yup, this means you can effectively save a step when styling hair, with wet hair going to dry, all whilst being curled, straightened or volumised in a single step!
There are six different attachments available, each with a specific purpose.
- The pre-styling dryer: Emits a diffused airflow to wet hair, drying it to the optimal level of ‘damp’ so you can use the curling barrels and brushes with ease.
- The soft smoothing Airbrush: Engineered to add body and volume to limp locks all while creating a smooth, blow dry finish.
- 40mm Airwrap barrel: Allows for the creation for loose waves for those with thicker, coarser hair types.
- 30mm Airwrap barrel: Allows for the creation of voluminous curls and waves for most hair types.
- Firm smoothing Airbrush: Allows for the creation of straighter locks with less frizz.
- Round volumising brush: Allows for the creation of volume and shape for thin, fine hair.
There are three separate sets you can purchase containing these various attachments. The Dyson Airwrap Complete (SGD699) contains all of the attachments as mentioned above, whereas the Dyson Airwrap Smooth + Control (SGD649) and the Dyson Airwrap Volume + Shape (SGD649) contains a selection of said attachments.
The Dyson Airwrap Smooth + Control contains a pre-styling dryer, 2 x 30mm barrels, 2 x 40mm barrels, and a firm smoothing Airbrush, whereas the Dyson Airwrap Volume + Shape contains a pre-styling dryer, 2 x 30mm barrels, a soft smoothing Airbrush and a round volumising brush.
You can also use the Dyson Airwrap Styler with minimal repercussions for your locks on a daily basis.
With intelligent heat control capabilities, this baby ensures that hair does not get exposed to extreme heat, with a glass bead thermistor measuring the temperature of your styler up to 40 times a second! This effectively transmits temperature data to the microprocessor to prevent it from getting too hot.
Oh, and did we mention that it is extremely convenient as well? Not only is it magnetic and removable, but it also washable with a filter cleaning brush.
It also comes with a quick release switch and cool-touch tips to allow you to change attachments effortlessly each time, with there even being a Cool Shot function which you can use to set hair.
The easy functionality is also one of the product’s biggest appeal. It is notoriously easy to use, even for hair styling beginners according to Advanced Insights Engineer Veronica Alanis.
“I think what we try to replicate is all these skills that professionals have with a brush, or a round brush… and we try to make it accessible to everyone.”

We got to try it out for ourselves, and we have to agree with the sentiment. Even as hair curler noobs, we found it super easy to achieve salon-worthy curls in just a few short minutes.
The other attachments were demonstrated on various models of different hair types as well, with each proving to have a 100% success rate.
With everything we have learned, there’s no doubt why the Dyson Airwrap Styler is considered to be revolutionary. And as far as we can tell, it is well-earned.
The Dyson Airwrap Styler is available at midnight on the 19th of October on Dyson’s site. It will be available in selected departmental and electrical stores such as Robinsons and Tangs from the 20th of October.
