The Movember Movement has been going on for quite some time. For some of us, it’s just a movement to grow moustaches and beards. However, Movember possesses a much deeper and potentially life-saving meaning.

Movember is an annual event that involves the growing of facial hair during the month of November to raise awareness of men’s health issues like prostate and testicular cancer.

Male cancers, especially of the testicular and prostate, are rarely mentioned or talked about in health discussions. However, simple checks and awareness can make the difference between early or late detection.

During Movember, all men are are challenged to grow a moustache for 30 days of November in a bid to “change the face of men’s health”. These brave and often misunderstood men are called Mo Bros, using their newly-grown facial hair as conversation-starters to raise awareness for men’s health issues. They also raise funds for men’s health by taking part in runs or charity walks and asking their family and friends to donate for their efforts.

Another little known fact is that Movember does not exclude the ladies. Mo Sistas can also help to raise funds and awareness for men’s health the same way Mo Bro counterparts do, just without the facial hair.
