Single malt, single vineyard, single origin. These terms are probably what you’re used to seeing in the food and beverage industry, where they are used to signal higher quality products.

Especially in the coffee industry, it’s not uncommon now to see “single origin” chalked on the menu board of every Starbucks and hipster café in town.

As its name suggests, single origin coffee points to the usage of single origin beans that are harvested from a single place – usually a certain country or region – and processed there as well.

Since it comes from only one source, single origin coffee tends to only be available at certain periods of a year, depending on the harvesting season.

Because of this, single origin coffee is often exotic and unique as the characteristics are often pegged to its geographical conditions –  you can expect the aroma, acidity, and flavour profile to be more pronounced than the balanced and mellowed coffee blends.

The need for transparency has also increased as the consumer demand for higher quality ingredients grows, and with single origin elements, we are able to study their traceability and sustainability all the way back to their origin.

For these reasons, single origin usually represents the pinnacle of quality, character, and also price when it comes to whiskey, wine or coffee.

The single origin trend is making its way into the beauty arena too

Now, it seems like this trend is seeping into the beauty industry as well, and spearheading the movement for single origin ingredients is Diane Bonheur, a premium range by popular haircare brand, Moist Diane.

Launched in September last year in Singapore, Diane Bonheur is known for its artisanal shampoo concept that comprises three main crafts – craft fragrance, craft oil, and craft soap – which utilise only the best ingredients sourced from trusted farmlands around the world.

Diane Bonheur Blue Jasmine Shampoo And Treatment Flatlay

Adding yet another new fragrance to its line of products, Diane Bonheur recently introduced the Blue Jasmine Shampoo and Treatment.

Developed for those with fine, flat hair, the two-product range features key ingredients that are each sourced from a specific origin to restore hydration and impart volume.

This makes the range suitable for those struggling with hair greasiness as well, as it can help their tresses achieve impeccable airiness and radiance!

To start, both products are beautifully perfumed with Diane Bonheur’s craft fragrance, an exquisite jasmine perfume that’s specially blended in Grasse, France.

Most of us in this part of the world tend to have the misconception that the jasmine scent is overwhelmingly heady, but through extensive research and development, Diane Bonheur managed to find a way to incorporate the flower’s perfume in a subtler way.

Blending hand-picked jasmine flowers with premium frankincense, Diane Bonheur crafted a deeply sensual floral aroma that is profound yet transparent and refreshing on the nose.

Diane Bonheur Complete Shampoo Range

Like the Grasse Rose and Orange Flower variants before Blue Jasmine, Diane Bonheur paid extra attention to crafting the perfect scent for its new haircare line as many of us appreciate haircare products that not only deliver amazing hair-loving benefits, but also leave a lingering fragrance that makes them feel refreshed when they step out of the shower.

With a special formulation, Diane Bonheur was able to ensure that the exquisite fragrance of the Blue Jasmine range can last significantly longer throughout the day than other shampoos in the market without being too cloying.

To power the formulas, Diane Bonheur worked with reputable farms with sustainable practices to create the key craft oils of the range.

Sourcing ingredients from all over the world, the brand eventually found two of the best single origin ingredients for the Blue Jasmine range: organic marula oil from Namibia and prickly pear oil from The Sahara in Morocco.

Diane Bonheur Blue Jasmine Range Key Ingredient Marula

Did you know that nearly every part of the marula tree can be used in medicinal practices and beauty rituals?

One of the largest African indigenous plants, the marula tree is much valued by the locals, and is fondly known as the Tree of Life.

Its nickname came about largely because nearly every part of the tree can be used in medicinal formulations as well as beauty rituals in Africa where it is cultivated, thanks to its exceptionally stable composition of antioxidants.

The oil, which is extracted from the marula fruit, is rich in vitamins C and E, and both these vitamins have synergistic effects that play a key role in maintaining the health of hair and scalp.

By procuring this ingredient directly from marula farmers in Namibia, Diane Bonheur is able to contribute to their income and livelihood through fair trade practices. This, in turn, enables their farming methods to be sustainable in order to protect the environment and ensure that the marula farms continue to thrive.

Diane Bonheur Blue Jasmine Range Key Ingredient Prickly Pear

The prickly pear cactus is gaining momentum in the beauty world, and for good reason

To complement the exquisite marula oil, Diane Bonheur chose the precious prickly pear oil which is extracted from the fruit of the prickly pear flower found in The Sahara desert of Morocco. Blooming only once every year in July, it takes eight tonnes of prickly pear fruit to produce just one kilogramme of the oil!

Thanks to its ability to withstand harsh desert conditions, the extracted oil is excellent at retaining moisture to keep hair well hydrated. Its high content of vitamin E and omega fatty acids is also beneficial, as it works to nourish hair deeply from the inside.

Both marula and prickly pear oils used in the Blue Jasmine range are extracted via cold pressing, meaning they are expressed without the aid of heat. Using the cold pressing technique, all the nutrients within the oils are retained in high concentration without altering their chemical compositions to achieve maximum effectiveness.

Additionally, the Blue Jasmine Shampoo employs a proprietary blend of 100% plant-derived cleansing ingredients – namely argan, babassu, and olive oils – for its craft soap to offer a fluffy light lather that makes shampooing a luxurious experience.

While most natural, sulphate-free shampoos can make shampooing difficult due to the lack of lather, Diane Bonheur managed to mitigate this pain through its cocktail of cleansing ingredients that produces a mochi-like foam. This featherlight foam ensures that all the goodness from the craft oils do not go to waste as each strand is enveloped in the fluffy froth.

This artisanal quality haircare that’s uncompromised by heat allows nutrients to be thoroughly restored into your tresses, so you can achieve airy, radiant locks effortlessly.

Just like all other Diane Bonheur’s products, the Blue Jasmine Shampoo and Treatment formulas are formulated with 98% natural ingredients and contain no sulphates, parabens, animal derivatives, and artificial additives.

To find out if the all-new Diane Bonheur Blue Jasmine Shampoo and Treatment duo can really nourish fine, flat hair, we tested it on one of Daily Vanity’s team members, Peony, and here’s what she has to say after trying the haircare products on her flat, damaged hair for a week!

“To trial the Blue Jasmine Shampoo and Treatment, I swapped out my regular products and used the Blue Jasmine range daily. For my chest-length hair, I use a full pump of the shampoo, and dispense about the size of a 20-cent coin for the conditioner.

Full disclosure: the Blue Jasmine Shampoo and Treatment have one of the lightest textures I’ve ever encountered, and I truly appreciate this watery texture because it didn’t leave a kind of residue on my hair and hands after that made me feel like I haven’t washed it off properly.

Because of its light texture, I was not expecting the shampoo to foam up as much as other shampoo variants I’ve used but boy, was I wrong. It lathered up super easily, and the foam was  surprisingly fine and light. I must say that the lather rinsed off easily too, and didn’t leave a greasy afterfeel on my scalp.

Scent wise, both products have an ultra-light refreshing floral perfume that isn’t too overpowering, although I personally would have liked the fragrance to be stronger!

After using these products for a week, I noticed that my hair had lesser tangles even right after rinsing off the shampoo. I’d usually have to rely on conditioners or treatments to detangle my hair and while the shampoo alone didn’t give the detangling effect of a conditioner, I feel that it definitely was not as drying on my hair compared to other shampoos I’ve used.

In addition, I was pleasantly surprised that the formula turned out to be so nourishing for my damaged hair despite its lightweight texture. As someone who has tried plenty of shampoos that are of the moisturising, keratin or damage repair variants, I can safely say that it delivered its promise on providing much-needed nourishment!

While I didn’t notice any significant changes of volume in my hair, I did observe positive effects on my hair’s hydration and vibrancy. I found that the frizziness in my hair has noticeably decreased, and my hair feels airier and fluffier as well after using this haircare range.

My mane is now incredibly easy to comb through with either my fingers or a comb, and there’ll hardly be any tangles that come in between.

I also find that both the products are incredibly easy to use; in fact, I am in love with the packaging of the shampoo – the gorgeous blue hue housed in a transparent bottle is just so aesthetically pleasing and looks premium, minus the hefty price tag of course.

All in all, I think that the Diane Bonheur Blue Jasmine Shampoo and Treatment duo can be easily incorporated into an individual’s daily haircare routine as the formulas are gentle and not drying at all.”

The Diane Bonheur Blue Jasmine Shampoo and Treatment each retail for S$22.90 (500ml) and are available at Watsons, Shopee, Lazada, Welcia-BHG, and Don Don Donki. You can also find the Blue Jasmine haircare starter kit (S$8.90 for a duo of 40ml bottles) as well as 400ml refill packs (S$16.90) exclusively online at Watsons, Shopee, and Lazada.
