Solid, liquid, gas. No, we are not giving you a refresher on the topic of “Matter” that you already learnt in primary school. These are the different forms of sunscreens that you can find under the sun, and we have some of our favourites to recommend:
1. Solid sunscreen: Fresh Sugar Sport Treatment Sunscreen SPF30 PA++
You are probably familiar with the star product from Fresh – the Sugar Lip Treatment. Joining the family now isn’t a product that’s only meant for the lips – you can also apply it on the face, and even the eye area. This sunscreen stick has a water-resistant formula that protects your skin from UV rays and other free radical environmental aggressors. Like the original lip treatment, this sunscreen stick is also formulated with sugar as the main ingredient, which is a natural humectant known to prevent moisture loss. The Sugar Sport Treatment Sunscreen retails at SGD36, and is available at Fresh boutiques ION Orchard and Raffles City, and Sephora.
Why use a solid sunscreen: If you’re travelling, solid sunscreen ensures no spillage, and you can definitely bring it across the customs without worrying about its quantity. It is also the perfect type of product for sun protection on the lips, an area that is often neglected.
2. Liquid sunscreen: Kiehl’s Dermatologist’s Solutions Ultra-Light Daily UV Defense Mineral Sunscreen SPF50 PA+++
If you’re looking for a 100% mineral formula, look no further than the upcoming Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions Ultra-Light Daily UV Defense Mineral Sunscreen. This gentle, lightly-tinted formula uses Titanium Dioxide, a photostable sun filter that is naturally-occurring mineral that physically blocks UV rays due to its high refractive index. On top of this, it is also fortified with antioxidant ability to further protect skin from free radical damage. This sunscreen retails at SGD72 at all Kiehl’s stores and will be available from April.
By the way, from now till 30 April 2016, you can recycle any of your empty full-sized facial sunscreen at Kiehl’s and exchange it for a travel-sized Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions Ultra Light Daily UV Defense SPF50 PA++++, another liquid sunscreen by Kiehl’s.
Why use a liquid sunscreen: The most common type of sunscreen around, liquid sunscreen is easy to apply and can precisely cover every part that you’d like to reach.
3. “Gas” sunscreen: Biore UV Perfect Spray SPF50 PA++++
This sunscreen spray doesn’t exactly come out as a “gas” but it is invisible and lightweight just like one, which is why you can easily spritz over your makeup for easy application. Offering a cooling sensation, this sunscreen can be sprayed onto any part of the body within seconds and leaves a matte finish on the skin. It retails at SGD9.90 and is available at all leading pharmacies and selected supermarkets and hypermarkets.
Why use a gas sunscreen: This is probably the most convenient type of sunscreens around and it’s favoured because it’s the quickest to apply.
