Our reader Ryn asked:
What is the hair care regime everyone should have?
Regardless of the extent of hair damage, a haircare regimen including a regular rinse-off or leave-on treatment is extremely important in maintaining the overall health of your hair which allows your hair’s beauty to shine through.
A simple three-step routine comprising a shampoo, conditioner and treatment keeps your hair clean, conditioned and protected against damage. Besides cleansing and conditioning, a treatment provides intensive repair to nourish and restore your hair’s health, especially as damage tends to accumulate over time. For those suffering from severely damaged hair, a weekly intensive treatment or hair masque offers an additional boost of nutrition and repair.
Dos and Don’ts for hair care
DO: Trim your hair every 4-6 weeks months to ensure that hair is in the best condition.
DO: Wash your hair after swimming in chlorinated water. Chlorine is extremely drying and if not washed off properly, can lead to dry and damaged hair.
DON’T: Overstyle your hair. Excessive styling by colouring, perming or rebonding your hair can lead to hair damage, hair fall due to breakage and weak, limp hair. Contrary to popular belief, hair styling does not help to restore our hair’s health but only hides the extent of issues that hair faces. This means that the health condition of hair continues to deteriorate if the issues go untreated, according to styling experts.
DON’T: Expose your hair to external aggressors unnecessarily. For instance, do not expose your hair to the sun during the hottest time of the day; wear a hat instead to minimize the hair damage.
