Lara Jean and Peter Kavinsky stole our hearts from the moment we saw their first kiss on the running track, and as we followed their love story across the three series, we ended with a bittersweet, but satisfying conclusion.

There’s so much that goes into giving a series its essence and personality, and for the To All The Boys I Loved Before (TATBILB) series, it’s got to be the soundtrack and the characters’ styles!

We couldn’t help but notice Lara Jean’s ever-evolving hairstyles that you, too, could pull off for an everyday look. Below, we share 12 of Lara Jean’s hairstyles that you can easily recreate!

Headbands

This is Lara Jean’s signature hairstyle you’ll see consistently across all three movies, and every time she’s got a new one on! Think skinny headbands, thick fabric ones, in quirky colours and patterns that are just so adorable.

There’s a lot to love about headbands, because they can easily help to conceal a bad hair day, keep your hair out of your face, and dress up your look in a flash!

1. Thick Headbands

Lara Jean spices up her otherwise dull or dark outfits with a coloured headband, which adds a great pop of colour.

2. Classic Thin Headbands

Classic Hairband

We’ve got to admit, some of these thin, plastic headbands have given us the worst headaches in our lives, but they’re a great way to complete you look, especially if you’ve got a cute or girly outfit on like Lara Jean.

Pro-tip: Stretch your headbands (gently!) before wear, so they’re not so tight on your head.

3. Patterned Headbands and Bandanas

Add any patterned accessory to an otherwise plain outfit, and you’re good to go!

Lara Jean dons many headbands throughout the movies, but we’ve got to say, the patterned ones go so well with her fun and quirky sense of style.

Buns

You either get it on the first try, or you fail for the next 10 minutes until you huff and toss the hair tie aside. We daresay a bun is the most effortless-looking, yet difficult to achieve hairstyle but fret not, we’ve got some tips on how you can recreate Lara Jean’s buns right here.

4. The Classic Bun

Classic Buns

Whether it’s a high or low one, you’ll have to be careful about treading the fine line between looking effortlessly casual with your hair thrown up in a messy bun, and looking like you just rolled out of bed.

To pull off Lara Jean’s messy buns, we suggest securing your hair with a hair tie first, before working it into a bun by twisting and turning, making sure you grasp most of your hair and secure it with another hair tie (or a scrunchie, if that’s more up your alley).

5. Space Buns

Ballerina Bun Double

The perfect updo if you’re looking for something a little different compared to a ponytail or messy bun, space buns are both casual and playful too!

Fret not, creating space buns isn’t rocket science. All you have to do is part your hair down the middle and secure your hair into two pigtails, then wrap the length of your hair around the base of each ponytail. Hold this newly-formed bun into place while you secure it with bobby pins, and repeat on the other side.

It might take a while to get the hang of this, but we’re sure with enough practice, your space buns will look out of this world!.

Half Up Dos

Up your hair game with any one of Lara Jean’s easy half up hairstyles! All you need are some hair ties and bobby pins to keep your hair in place, so you don’t have to keep flipping it when it gets in your face.

6. Half Bun

Bun Half Up

We can’t get enough of this adorable hairstyle! If you’re afraid of looking bad with all your hair pulled back, Lara Jean’s half updo with a bun is a great way to get your hair out of your face, while still keeping some of your hair down.

7. Sectioned Half Up

Scrunchie Half Up Half Down

See that random cloth headband abandoned in the corner of your dresser there? Take a page out of Lara Jean’s book and use it to secure a half updo instead of looping it around your head!

To achieve the sectioned look, you’ll simply need to use some hair elastics and tie them around your hair.

For extra volume, gently tug at the sections so they look more puffy!

8. Half Up Twist

Half Up Half Down

Wearing your hair in a half updo doesn’t have to be boring.

Instead of combing back the front of your hair and securing it at the back, reach for two sections of hair by the side and twist them however high or low you want to create this effortlessly chic look that’s suitable for school, work, or everyday wear.

Ponytails

Feeling hot and sticky in the humid Singapore weather? Ponytail. Trying to clean up your desk but your hair keeps getting in the way? Ponytail.

One of the most classic hairstyles, the ponytail has never gone out of trend. It’s a simple hairstyle and you can easily throw your hair up into a ponytail whenever and wherever – all you need is a hair tie and you’re done!

6. Scrunchie Ponytails

Scrunchie Ponytail

We knew from the get-go that Lara Jean loves her scrunchie, and who knew an unassuming hair tie would play such a crucial role in the first movie too?

Last year, we saw the hair accessory from the ’80s make a huge comeback, and who could blame them? The functional and comfortable hair accessory can also double up as a way to complete a look.

You can wear them on your wrist, or style them like Lara Jean and sling them around a low or high ponytail.

7. Low Ponytail

Scrunchie Pony

Dress up a low ponytail with a headband instead! Using a cloth headband, wrap it around your hair tie to add a pop of colour to your look.

You can go for a colour that matches one of your other accessories (your bag, shoes, jewellery) like Lara Jean, or find a shade that complements the colours of your clothes.

Pigtails

Whether you’re wearing them in a loose French braid, or two half-up pigtails pulled tight on either side, they’re a fun and playful hairstyle that’s sure to make you look more youthful.

A refreshing change from a usual ponytail, there’s now so many pigtail styles out there that are anything but childish, and 23-year-old Lana Condor who played Lara Jean sure pulled it off.

8. The Classic Pigtails

Pigtails have been a rising trend, has even been recently spotted on celebrities like Ariana Grande, Kylie Jenner, and Hailey Bieber. But hey, Lara Jean did it first.

9. Braided Pigtails

Double French Braids

French braiding is one of those things that seem a lot harder than it looks, but we’ll break it down for you step-by-step here.

Fancy Glam

Of course, Lara Jean had her Cinderella moments where she got all dolled up and ready for a date or dance. While these hairstyles may not be suitable for everyday wear (considering the amount of time and effort it takes into styling them!), you may want to bookmark these for your next date night, or even wedding, that you’re going to attend.

10. Side Pinned Fringe

Fancy Side Clipped Fringe

Instead of letting her hair down like she usually would, Lara Jean had her fringe pinned to the side with just two bobby pins when she went on her first date with Peter *swoon*.

You don’t have to go over the top with the accessories, but you can just keep it simple with some coloured bobby pins. This way, you’ll keep your hair out of your face and show off your gorgeous, glowing makeup too!

11. Sleek Low Pony

Fancy Low Pony

If this looks a little unfamiliar to you, you probably haven’t watched the third season, TATBILB: Always & Forever, yet, but we won’t spoil it for you.

At this… formal function, Lara Jean pulled her hair back in a sleek, low pony that’s both chic and sophisticated! You’re going to want to straighten your hair with a flat iron and finish it off with hairspray to keep any flyaways from running amok.

12. Bouncy Waves

Fancy Curl And Volume

Combining waves and curls, this dreamy hairstyle made Lara Jean look like she stepped straight out of a fairytale.

As always, she has one side of her hair pinned behind her ear, this time with a bejewelled bobby pin that’s all the accessorising she needs to complete this almost princess-like look!
