Finding a new lip shade can be difficult no matter how experienced you are with makeup. This is because there are so many factors you have to consider, such as your skin tone, undertones, and the endless amount of shades on the market.
It can be a hassle to find what shade we want to buy or wear. A peachy pink, a milk tea shade, a classic red, or a vampy burgundy… we truly are spoiled for choice.
Thankfully, we have a new Tiktok trend that promises to find us our perfect lip shade. Yup, it really means perfect.
Here’s how it goes
Started by user yokenzieb, her video has since blown up with more than 4.7 million views. Many other TikTok users have also tried out the hack and posted how it looks on them.
But what is the hack exactly? Well, it requires three simple products that you probably already have in your vanity – and only one of these were designed to be used on your lips!
Here are the steps you have to follow to find your perfect lip shade:
- Line your lips with your go-to eyebrow pencil.
- Fill in the middle of your lip with your go-to blush.
- Top your lips with some lip gloss.
And ta-dah, you’ve found your perfect lip shade! You can totally wear it every day and look amazingly effortless.
But does this hack work well on Asian skin tones? How does it feel to have your eyebrow pencil and blush on your lips? Can you really get the perfect lip shade with this hack?
I was so intrigued, I had to put it to the test – and this time, I gathered two other Daily Vanity team members to try it out!
How it looks like on us

Here’s what it looks like on our editor, Kristen. At first, she felt it was a bit weird to use the eyebrow pencil and blush on her lips. But after application, she felt like they actually went on pretty well.
While it does provide a nice contrast in photos, she notes that it actually looks a bit strange in person, likely due to how dark her eyebrow pencil is.
It’s not all bad, however, as she said that she wouldn’t mind using her favourite blush as lipstick from time to time.

Next is our writer, Sabrina. Even though she tried to thoroughly blend the products together, she still felt like it was a bit odd.
She said it looked as though she didn’t wipe her mouth after eating chocolate ice cream!

Lastly, this is what it looked like on me. While the contrast looked okay and was not too dark, it could be because my go-to eyebrow pencil is a light shade of brown rather than black or grey.
I did feel that it was a bit weird to have powdery blush on my lips, though. This is especially since I had to pile it on to get it to show as it was a shimmery pink. However, it did feel more comfortable once gloss was applied.
I do kind of like the contrast that it provides, but just as Sabrina said, it does sort of look like I have chocolate around my mouth.
And our verdict is….
At the end of the day, none of us recommend this TikTok hack, and we definitely don’t think that we have found our perfect lip shade.
This TikTok hack wasn’t a total waste of time though, as it has opened our eyes to some new methods on how to look for a great lip shade.
Matching your lip shade with the blush on your cheeks is a good idea as your blush and lippie should generally complement each other.

However, we wouldn’t recommend lining your lips with an eyebrow pencil, despite liking the contrast of a dark lip liner.
But instead of matching your eyebrows, it might be better to go for a lip liner that’s a few shades darker than your lip colour. Apparently, lining your lips with a darker line was a ’90s trend! We can totally appreciate it making a comeback through this hack.
