What Makes Avène Cleanance Comedomed Peeling Intensive Spot Breakout Cream So Effective

Why Retinaldehyde Is Great for Acne

Comedomed Peeling’s unique combination of active ingredients makes it the perfect ally against imperfections 👊

This potent intensive spot breakout cream goes beyond surface improvements and serves as a comprehensive solution to combat acne.

When it comes to the effectiveness of 0.1% retinaldehyde, Dr Yong emphasises its value: “Yes, it is a good ingredient to have in such a product as it is mild enough to be used daily and has the ability to reduce blemishes and hyperpigmentation from acne, as well as even out the skin texture.”

This makes retinaldehyde a beneficial component for those seeking to improve their skin’s overall appearance while managing breakouts.

Glycolic Acid Helps Clear and Smooth Skin

Equally important is the 6% glycolic acid, a powerful keratolytic that significantly contributes to unclogging pores and reducing imperfections.

Dr Yong explains, “glycolic acid 6% is a powerful keratolytic that helps to improve cell cycle turnover and also removes dead cells from the epidermal surface. This not only helps to smooth out the skin and even the skin tone but also helps to reduce the appearance of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation caused by acne.”

Comedoclastin™ Works To Improve Overall Skin Clarity and Texture

The patented ingredient Comedoclastin™ plays a vital role in treating imperfections. It helps regulate sebum production, unclogs pores, and reduces imperfections while mattifying the skin.

Dr Yong describes it as a “good 360 solution which can help to not only reduce active acne and comedones but also to reduce blemishes caused by acne.”

Together, these ingredients create a formidable duo for achieving clearer, healthier skin, but individual skin types should always be taken into account, Dr Yong emphasised!

Is the Avène Cleanance Comedomed Peeling Intensive Spot Breakout Cream Suitable for Sensitive Skin?

In her expert opinion, it’s essential to consider that retinaldehyde and glycolic acid can be harsh on the skin.

Dr Yong notes, “to be cautious with using a combination of these ingredients in a single product on sensitive skin types such as those with eczema or rosacea.”

However, if you have oily, acne-prone skin, “then this would be tolerated after the initial induction/adjustment phase.”

Recommendations for Using Skincare Products with Potent Ingredients

Dr Yong emphasises the importance of a careful approach when using potent skincare ingredients like retinaldehyde and glycolic acid. She states that “gradual introduction is key to achieving the best results without overwhelming the skin.”

In her expert opinion, here’s how you can safely use products with two strong ingredients:

  1. Start with a Patch Test: Check for any adverse reactions
  2. Apply to Smaller Areas First: Focus on oilier areas like the T-zone to build tolerance
  3. Begin with a Lower Frequency: Use the product once every two to three nights initially
  4. Gradually Increase Frequency: If well tolerated, move to nightly use
  5. Use a Hydrating Toner Before Application: Preps the skin and reduces irritation
  6. Opt for a Hydrating Moisturiser: Locks in moisture and minimises irritation
  7.  Always Use Sunscreen: Protects against increased sensitivity and UV damage

Avène Cleanance Comedomed Peeling Intensive Spot Breakout Cream: Dr Angeline Yong’s Review

Upon using the Avène Cleanance Comedomed Peeling Intensive Spot Breakout Cream, I noticed that while there was some reduction in active acne blemishes. She also noted that “it’s effective at treating mild acne.”

Based on the doctor’s insights, the Avène Cleanance Comedomed Peeling Intensive Spot Breakout Cream is generally suitable for daily use on acne-prone skin. However, it may not be ideal for those with sensitive skin, so proceed with caution.

Dr Yong highlighted that “it’s suitable for daily use on acne-prone skin. Those with sensitive skin types have to be more cautious when using this product and should focus on localised spot treatment first to see if this is well tolerated before expanding it to zonal or full face application.”

She shared her experience with the Avène Cleanance Comedomed Peeling Intensive Spot Breakout Cream after one use, highlighting several positive aspects:

  • Non-greasy feel
  • Easily absorbed
  • Lightweight texture
  • No sticky after-feel

She emphasised that these qualities contributed to a pleasant application experience, making the product easy to incorporate into her skincare routine. Additionally, Dr Yong shared her experience with the Avène Cleanance Comedomed Peeling Intensive Spot Breakout Cream, noting several positive outcomes:

  • Smoother skin texture
  • Reduction in acne spots
  • No skin irritation
  • It did not clog her pores
  • Her skin looks clearer, with fewer blemishes

She expressed that “the sensuality of the formulation is acceptable and it does not sting or cause overt dryness and irritation. Some other breakout creams may actually cause localised irritation and stinging, especially over-inflamed skin,” she added.

Overall, she claimed that “it is an efficacious product for individuals with acne/oily skin type, that does not overtly dry the skin or cause irritation in troubled skin.”

Pair the Breakout Cream With Avène CLEANANCE A.H.A Exfoliating Serum

Aside from the intensive breakout cream, Dr Yong also gave Avène CLEANANCE A.H.A Exfoliating Serum a try.

According to her, “The serum has a lightweight and smooth texture. The sensoriality of the product is good and I appreciate that it has no scent or unpleasant smell, which can make it more acceptable to users.”

Is This Exfoliating Serum Safe for Sensitive Skin?

The Cleanance A.H.A Exfoliating Serum combines lactic acid (AHA) and succinic acid, making it gentler than salicylic acid, which can often be too aggressive for sensitive skin.

Dr Yong explained, “salicylic acid can often lead to redness or irritation. Succinic acid and lactic acid, on the other hand, work synergistically together as they are gentler and less irritating, making it ideal for people with more sensitive skin types.

With 99% natural origin ingredients and a fragrance-free formulation, the Cleanance A.H.A Exfoliating Serum is suitable for sensitive skin. Dr Yong emphasised, “Fragrance-free is always welcome for dermo-cosmetic products, as fragrance may potentially be allergenic for some individuals.”

For mild to moderate acne, she recommends using the serum once every other day or daily, depending on other active treatments.

“The Cleanance A.H.A Exfoliating Serum could be used in the morning, while the Cleanance Comedomed Peeling Cream could be used in the evenings to avoid layering both products together,” she advised.

Is Avène CLEANANCE A.H.A Exfoliating Serum Worth Trying?

After 10 days of use, Dr Yong observed “reduced blemishes, less oily skin, and improvement in skin tone.” Overall, she appreciated the serum’s “good sensoriality, does not sting, and smooth silky lightweight texture.”
