When it comes to ageing, skincare tends to get most of the attention. Fine lines, pigmentation, firmness and hydration — these are the concerns we’re constantly reminded to think about.

But what about our hair and scalp?

Our hair and scalp age too, and it’s important to give them the same attention as we would the rest of our beauty routine.
So, when our Editorial Director, Kristen Juliet Soh, was invited to try the Bee Choo Origin Dead Sea Mud Mineral Scalp Detox Mask treatment, she grabbed the opportunity immediately, knowing just how important scalp care is to her.

Her expectations were fairly straightforward: she wanted a thorough cleanse and a scalp that felt fresher and less congested.

But did the treatment meet her expectations? Here’s everything that went down — and why you’ll want to make an appointment, stat.

About Bee Choo Origin Dead Sea Mud Mineral Scalp Detox Mask

So, what makes the Dead Sea Mud Mineral Scalp Detox Mask different? Here’s what to know before we share Juliet’s experience:

  • Deeply cleanses the scalp: Dead Sea mud helps clear clogged pores and remove buildup, making it suitable for oily, congested, or acne-prone scalps.
  • Soothes and supports the scalp barrier: Its mineral-rich formula helps calm sensitivity and inflammation while supporting the scalp’s natural barrier.
  • Helps replenish moisture: The treatment is designed to relieve dryness and tightness, leaving the scalp feeling more comfortable and hydrated.
  • Supports a healthier scalp environment: Daily Barrier Scalp & Hair Defense Oil provides moisturising benefits with argan and jojoba oils.
  • Finishes with Bee Choo Essence: This proprietary herbal concentrate is formulated with premium Chinese herbs to help support scalp circulation, reduce inflammation, and promote healthier hair growth.

Our Editor’s Hair And Scalp Concerns!

Before the treatment, Juliet was dealing with an oily scalp and dry hair ends. She also found that her usual shampoo didn’t always cleanse her scalp thoroughly, leaving the hair around the front looking flat.

Having enjoyed scalp treatments in the past, she was hoping for a deeper cleanse that could help regulate her scalp. As she puts it, “I’ve always enjoyed it because I feel like my scalp could ‘breathe’ after the treatments.”

Her First Impression of The Treatment

Even though Juliet has had plenty of scalp treatments before, this time around, she found herself paying closer attention to what was actually going on with her scalp.

During the consultation, she discovered that “my scalp is generally dry, except for the front, which explains why my fringe and crown always look flat.”

She also found the scalp scan particularly helpful, describing it as “very comprehensive” and something that helped her understand her scalp better.

During the conversation with her therapist, Juliet learnt that the scalp detox and mud treatment could help address some of the concerns she had been experiencing. “She said that this can help cleanse my scalp thoroughly, getting rid of buildup and regulating the oil production,” Juliet shares.

And, the salon itself made a good first impression too, with Juliet describing it as having “a calming vibe” that left her feeling relaxed.

“Could I Really Relax Enough to Almost Fall Asleep?”

The treatment began with a scalp scan and consultation before the Dead Sea mud mask was prepared and applied directly to the scalp.

Juliet describes the mask as “very cooling and comforting on the scalp,” with the therapist using a brush to work it thoroughly across the scalp. An aromatherapy diffuser was also switched on at the start, which helped set a relaxing mood from the beginning.

As the treatment progressed, the experience became less about simply cleansing the scalp and more about unwinding. The mask was followed by a thorough rinse and shampoo, accompanied by a calming head massage that Juliet found so relaxing, she “almost fell asleep.” Essence was then infused into the scalp using an oxyjet before her hair was blow-dried to finish.

For Juliet, the mud application was a particular highlight. “It’s very cooling and relaxing, giving my scalp a sense of relief when applied,” she says. She also appreciated that the therapist explained things only when necessary, rather than talking throughout the treatment. “There wasn’t excessive talking, which I love.”

Lasting approximately an hour, the treatment felt like more than just a scalp-care session for Juliet. “This is more than just a scalp treatment that makes my scalp healthier than before, but a relaxing respite which helps take the mind off after a long week at work.”

Here’s What Happened During Her One-Hour Treatment

The treatment took approximately an hour. Here’s how the treatment unfolded, from the initial scalp assessment to the finishing step:

  1. First, the scalp scan and consultation: Her scalp was assessed before the treatment, allowing the consultant to identify areas of dryness and oiliness and share her observations with Juliet.
  2. Next, the Daily Barrier Scalp and Hair Defense Oil was applied: Before the Dead Sea mud mask, the therapist applied the oil directly onto Juliet’s scalp and gently massaged it in to prep the scalp for the treatment.
  3. Then, the Dead Sea mud mask was applied: The thick mud mask was prepared on the spot before being carefully brushed across her scalp. The therapist worked thoroughly to ensure every area was covered.
  4. Then came the cooling mud mask: As the mask sat on her scalp, Juliet experienced a cooling and comforting sensation that she found particularly relaxing.
  5. After that, the scalp was rinsed and shampooed: The mud was thoroughly rinsed away before her scalp and hair were cleansed.
  6. The cleansing was paired with a calming head massage: The relaxing massage added to the experience — so much so that Juliet says she “almost fell asleep.”
  7. An essence was then infused into the scalp: The essence was infused using an oxyjet before the treatment moved on to the final step.
  8. Finally, her hair was blow-dried: The treatment wrapped up with a blow-dry, completing the approximately one-hour scalp-care experience.

But Did Her Scalp Actually Feel Cleaner?

The answer was yes. While the immediate results were noticeable, what stood out to Juliet was how her scalp and hair continued to feel different the following day. Here’s what she shared with us:

Did your scalp feel cleaner after the treatment?

“I could see that my scalp is a lot cleaner, less congested, and less oily.”

What about your hair — did you notice a difference?

“My hair also feels softer and lighter.”

Did the treatment feel like a deeper cleanse than your usual hair-washing routine?

“Definitely. It gives me a sense of cleanliness that I could never achieve at home.”

Did you notice anything different the next day?

“My scalp didn’t oil up as quickly as before,” which helped keep her hair from looking flat by midday — something she often struggled with.

The post-treatment scalp scan also gave Juliet a visual comparison, showing that her scalp appeared cleaner, less congested and less oily than during the initial assessment. For her, being able to see the difference made the results feel more tangible than simply being told that her scalp was cleaner.

Her Verdict?

Overall, the treatment lived up to what Juliet had hoped for, giving her the more thorough scalp care she was looking for.

What stood out most was how informative the experience felt without ever becoming uncomfortable or pressured. She appreciated being able to have her consultation and scalp analysis done at her seat using a portable tablet.

“She also gives very informative analysis without subjecting me to fear or shame, so I didn’t feel pressured at all”, Juliet shared.

And would she go back? Certainly. For Juliet, the experience felt like a much-needed scalp “spring-cleaning session” — something she’d consider doing every month or two as part of her regular scalp-care routine.

Because while anti-ageing hair care may often begin with the products we put on our hair, this experience was a reminder that perhaps we should be paying a little more attention to the scalp underneath it all, too.
