Dark spots are something that our editor, Kristen Juliet Soh, has been diligently battling for a long, long time.
She has always known she was susceptible to dark spots because of skin analysis she’s done in the past and how her mother is also quite prone to it.
As such, she’s been using anti-dark spot and brightening products since her mid-20s, which has significantly helped her prevent dark spots from appearing.
That was until she was pregnant with her first child. The hormonal changes, coupled with inconsistent sunscreen application left her with spots on her nose and cheeks.
The spots further darkened when she had her second child. Since then, she has been trying different anti-dark spot serums in hope of lightening the pigmentation as well as even out her skin tone, but none seems to work very well.
There were some that irritated her skin, while others left it parched and dry. Most importantly, there hasn’t been significant improvement to the condition, leaving her quite demoralised.
So, when we were given the opportunity to try out the Vichy LIFTACTIV B3 Anti-Dark Spot Serum, we had Kristen in mind. Additionally, keep reading to find out how to redeem a three-piece Anti-Dark Spot Sampling Kit for yourself.
How Vichy LIFTACTIV B3 Anti-Dark Spot Serum works
Suitable for all skin tones and skin types, the Vichy LIFTACTIV B3 Anti-Dark Spot Serum is a serum designed to correct dark spots while evening out skin tone.
It is formulated with highly concentrated derm-grade active ingredients such as:
- 13% Niacinamide [Vitamin B3], which is an anti-pigmentation efficacy to tackle deep-rooted dark spots at the epidermis basal layer.
- Glycolic Acid [AHA], which exfoliates pigmented skin cells for more even skin tone.
- Peeling Actives complex, which reduces visible dark spots at the skin’s surface.
Overall, the combination of active ingredients help to provide a complete 360° correction against both surface and deep-rooted dark spots.
This serum provides translucent and even skin tone from the first month alone, as validated by an eight-week self-assessment evaluation of 54 Asian women. A test in which 96% of participants agreed that their overall skin appearance looks improved, skin looks clearer and more translucent.
To use the serum, all you have to do is apply several drops to a cleaned and toned face every morning and evening. But you must make sure to avoid contact with the eyes and wear sunscreen during the daytime.
What we find interesting about Vichy Laboratoires, the brand behind the serum, is that it is recommended by 50,000 dermatologists worldwide.
Developed by health experts, the French dermo-cosmetic brand follows a strict hypoallergenic formulation charter, with dermatological safety as a key priority and strives to deliver clinical efficacy.
Putting the serum to the test
As the name Vichy Laboratoires was synonymous with strict hypoallergenic safety, Kristen felt hopeful about the serum.
She was not worried about it irritating her skin especially since it is dermatologically tested, hypoallergenic, and suitable for even sensitive skin due to the absence of fragrance, alcohol, colourants, and silicone.
Upon application, the serum felt very comfortable on her skin, as it has a very lightweight and fluid texture.
“It practically absorbed instantly into my skin – wow!” she shared.
Kristen was able to incorporate the serum into her day and night skincare routines without her skin breaking out or drying out.
“I’m quite impressed by this because many of the anti-dark spot products I’ve tried left my skin dry and parched; this serum actually made my skin feel soft and supple after application.”
After only two weeks of usage, she started to see more translucent and even skin tone. Her skin also looked clearer, and she felt confident enough to take photos of herself without any filters on!
But what about the dark spots? Were they reduced?
After using the serum for a month, Kristen found that the dark spots on her cheeks are less obvious than before. Although the spots are still visible, there is a noticeable difference compared to a month ago.
Not only did the darkness of the pigmentation appear to be lighter, it was also easier to cover up with foundation than compared to before she started using the serum.
“I used to need a higher coverage foundation or concealer if I wanted to hide the spots. Now I could do with a medium coverage product because the spots aren’t as obvious,” she said.
So, what’s her verdict on the serum?
Kristen is now about a-third through the Vichy LIFTACTIV B3 Anti-Dark Spot Serum, and she can’t wait to keep using it as it seems pretty promising. So, it’s safe to say she’s all for this product.
“I’m looking forward to seeing even more improvements to my hyperpigmentation concern and to sustain a clear and even skin tone that I absolutely love.”
