In what appears to be a modern take on the classic old Hollywood glamour red lip worn by stars like Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor, TikTok has introduced us to its new beauty obsession: “cherry cola lips”.

What is the “cherry cola lip” trend about?

The hashtag #cherrycolalips has racked up over 2.5 million views on TikTok, earning participation from both beauty influencers and makeup artists.

Many have also associated the look with being a total “Lana Del Rey vibe”, given the alternative pop singer’s affinity for the red lip, vintage aesthetic, and aptly titled releases like the song “Cherry”.

“Cherry-cola lips” are essentially a mix of brown and rich red tones, inspired by the cherry flavour of Coca-Cola sodas. It typically features overlined lips, along with a gloss on top for a shiny finish that resembles the look of freshly-washed cherries.

While it’s a bolder look than usual, we think it’s the perfect statement for a night out.

How does one do “cherry cola lips”?

Despite how intricate it looks, you really only need three products to recreate the “cherry cola lip” look—a reddish brown lip liner, a red lipstick or tint, and an ultra-shiny gloss on top.

Step 1: Line your lips with a caramel lip liner

First, apply a lip liner that’s a few shades darker than your skin tone, making sure to overline the part near the centre of your upper and lower lip.

Use your fingertip to blend it inwards slightly so that the red lipstick that goes over it will merge with it. Need a lip liner recommendation? Here’s one from Anastasia Beverly Hills in the shade “Malt”.

Anastasia Beverly Hills lip liner retails for S$32 and is available at Sephora.sg.

This one from Rare Beauty has a slightly more mauve-y tone, but works perfectly for this look too.

Rare Beauty Kind Words Lip Liner in “Wise” retails for S$32 and is available at Sephora.sg.

Step 2: Fill your lips in with a red lipstick

Apply a vibrant red lipstick or lip tint of your choice or a darker shade if you’re feeling like going for a moodier “cherry cola lip” look.

MAC Lipstick in Russian Red retails for S$37 and is available at Sephora.sg.

According to one reviewer, this lip tint from Benefit Cosmetics promises a natural-looking flush – just like what you’d get “when you rub cherries on your lips”, and we couldn’t agree more.

Benefit Cosmetics Benetint retails for S$42 and is available at Sephora.sg.

Step 3: Finish off with a tinted gloss on top

Pop on some cherry red or berry-toned gloss for an extra shiny finish, starting from the centre. Then, blend it out slightly, and voilà! You’ve achieved the irresistible “cherry cola lips”.
