Despite being 40 years old, Korean actress Song Hye-kyo looks nowhere near her actual age – instead, she has flawless, youthful-looking skin and an enviable slim figure.

She has returned to acting after a three-year hiatus and is starring in a drama called Now, We Are Breaking Up, in which she plays the lead of a design team.

Despite being 10 years older than her male co-star, Jang Ki-yong, she looks the same age as him.

Although she looks as if she has found the Fountain of Youth and is holding out on us, the Descendants of The Sun star has shared six diet tips with us, even revealing that she lost up to 17kg with one of these tips!

1. Eating till 80% full and substituting rice for tofu

Dieting and exercise are the two most important things when it comes to weight loss, and Song Hye-kyo has found an effective way to do so. It has even resulted in her losing up to 17kg with this method! Here’s the trick: she tends to eat only until she is about 80% full to prevent overeating, and sticks to light foods.

She avoids any foods that are high in calories and always stays away from sugary drinks. For dinner, she substitutes rice for tofu as tofu is rich in dietary fibre and low in calories, so it still keeps you full. Remember to eat proper carbohydrates once in a while as your body does still need them for energy.

2. Have regular meal times

Most people tend to have irregular meal times, and this could actually be the culprit of unsuccessful weight loss. Having regular eating times could help you lose up to twice the weight with half the effort. Song Hye-kyo typically has her meals at 8am, 12 noon, and 6pm, and she also avoids eating anything after her dinner to prevent weight gain or fat accumulation.

3. Walk when you can

In our busy lives, it may be hard to find time to head to the gym or have hours set aside to workout. Instead, you can try finding time to walk whenever you can. Song Hye-kyo revealed that she finds time to walk each week, walking for about 3 to 5km each time. She tries to walk for longer than 30 minutes per day too, which can actually burn up to 200 calories.

She suggests walking instead of driving if you are able to, and to find other instances in your life where you can walk instead of taking other modes of transportation.

4. 15 minutes of daily aerobic exercise

Other than 30 minutes of walking each day, the actress also takes at least 15 minutes in a day to do some aerobic exercises and aims to at least reach the level of panting. This helps her to burn fat, improve her cardiorespiratory capacity and mood, while also relieving her stress and allowing her to keep fit.

On some days, she prefers gentle yoga exercises to aerobic exercises.

5. No snacks

One of the hardest things about any diet is having enough self-discipline to restrict yourself from eating all the delicious foods you love, especially snacks. Song Hye-kyo has cut out snacks from her diet completely and doesn’t even allow potato chips and sugary foods into her house as she will be too tempted to eat them.

If she ever craves any snacks, she will instead munch on fruits or a high-fibre and low-calorie snack to satisfy her cravings.

6. Drink lemonade to promote metabolism

Other than drinking plenty of water, Song Hye-kyo also makes sure to drink lots of unsweetened lemonade to help boost her metabolism.

Lemons are rich in vitamin C, which has an antioxidant effect. They also contain citric acid that will help to promote gastrointestinal motility and remove toxins from the body. Do note that lemonade should not be consumed on an empty stomach due to its high acidity levels.
