We commonly believe that diet and exercise are the only ways to manage our weight, and this definitely makes sense. But there are also some of us who have experienced poor results, despite dieting and exercising. What went wrong here?
Crash diets never work
If you have hopped onto crash diet fads, going for extreme dieting methods in order to see fast results, chances are that you probably will see results within a short time, but your weight bounce back very quickly once you start eating normally again. Crash diets that require you to starve yourself (such as consuming nothing but cabbage soup, or eating only fruits) make your body go into “starvation mode” and it “stores” more energy once you start eating normally again, for fear that you’ll starve again. Crash diets also cause a dip in metabolism, which means you’ll find yourself burn fat even slower than before.
What should you do instead: Avoid crash diets and learn to eat healthily. An average woman require approximately 1,200 calories per day. If you’d like to see weight loss, make sure you don’t exceed this intake quota. Going for anything between 1,000 to 1,200 calories per day would be fine. You should also be choosing “better foods” to load up on. Instead of indulging in carbohydrate-rich foods and oily foods, go for protein-rich and fibre-rich foods that can make you feel full for longer.
You have to exercise the right way
There are two types of workout that can be done: cardio training and weight training. Generally, cardio exercise is the one that can help you work off excess energy to achieve weight loss.
But it’s not at all easy to depend solely on occasional cardio exercises to keep the weight off, and we’ll explain why. Assuming you’re a 30-year-old woman who’s 1.6m tall and weigh 55kg, jogging for 30 minutes at 8km per hour would have only helped you burn off about 233 calories. This is even less than what an average person would consume for a single meal!
On the other hand, while weight training is important because building lean muscles help improve metabolism and give you a more toned-looking physique, this has to be coupled with sufficient cardio exercises too, or you’ll find yourself becoming heavier and maybe larger in size.
What you should do instead: To really see weight loss results from exercising alone, you’ll need to have the discipline to stick to a regular fitness regime. Experts recommend 30- to 60-minute cardio exercises three to six times a week, coupled with 30- to 60-minute weight training two to three times a week.
How do you do “smart slimming”?
“No pain, no gain” best describes any weight loss journey. You need absolute discipline, inner strength, and great time management skills to keep up with a strict and appropriate diet and fitness plan. But the unfortunate thing is that even when you’ve been able to stick to your plans, you’re probably not able to target specifically at the area that you hope will look slimmer. Those flabby arms may not go away as quick as your waistline, for instance.
In cases where you want to eliminate stubborn fat that wouldn’t go away even with disciplined diet and exercise, body contouring treatments are extremely helpful and are actually a smart method to achieve quick results in a safe and effective way.
The Fat Freezing technology in particular is favoured by women in Singapore because of how efficient and effective it is. This non-invasive treatment taps on the power of cryotherapy to freeze fatty tissues so as to destroy them, while putting the body’s metabolism to work. Based on cryotherapy science, cold temperature is able to reduce the thickness of the fat layer without having any adverse effects on other types of cells in the body.
LUSH Aesthetics, the leading provider of Fat Freezing treatments in Singapore, explains that this treatment is administered by pressing cooling plates against desired areas to cool fat cells in the area. The frozen fat cells then die, and the body naturally flushes them out and you’ll be able to see a more svelte body contour.
How fast can we see results? LUSH Aesthetics says that effects of this treatment are visible after two months and will reach its peak at three months after the treatment. Many patients also observe improvement six months into the treatment. There is no downtime at all, although some patients see minor bruising that will usually go away within a week. Fat Freeze is ideal on areas like the tummy, love handles, arms, thighs, calves, back, and buttocks.
