If you have long tresses, tying up your hair in our sweltering heat is second nature to you. But your go-to hairstyle doesn’t have to just be a standard ponytail!
When you see photos of celebrities and influencers rocking the perfect thick ponytail, you might wonder why your ponytail seems to hang limply.

Fret not – we’ve got a guide on how to easily achieve this voluminous look in just a few steps!
Keep reading to find out how you can give your regular ponytail a boost with only one hair tie – no fancy tools or accessories required.
Step 1: Smoothen Your Hair

Firstly, comb through your hair and pull your hair back to estimate the height of the ponytail.
This ponytail looks best when it’s tied slightly higher up, but you can adjust your ponytail to suit your preferences.
Make sure that your hair is smooth when it’s pulled back, using either a brush or your fingers to detangle your strands.
Don’t worry about tying the ponytail too tightly – a looser ponytail creates a casual and relaxed look, making your hair look more voluminous!
Step 2: Separate Half of Your Ponytail

Next, grab your hair tie and tie your ponytail normally, but stop just before the last loop! So, if you usually secure your hair tie with three loops, you’ll only need to do two before moving on to this step.
Separate the top half of your ponytail from the bottom half, and tie it with the same hair tie as the rest of your ponytail.
This will create a gap between the top and bottom half of the ponytail and give it an extra bit of height.
By boosting the height of your ponytail, you’ll create the illusion of fluffier hair, which helps to achieve a flattering volume.
Step 3: Gather the Rest of Your Hair

If you’re worried about the gap in your ponytail becoming visible, here’s how to fix it!
Don’t secure your hair tie after tying the top half of your ponytail just yet – use the hair tie to tie one final loop around the entire ponytail so that it goes around both the top and bottom halves of the ponytail.
This helps to join the top and bottom half together and prevent an awkward separation of your hair while still maintaining that luxurious volume created by the split ponytail!
To sum up, the final hairstyle will consist of:
- Two normal loops around the whole ponytail
- One loop around the top half of the ponytail
- One final loop around the entire ponytail again
Step 4: Frame Your Face With Loose Strands

Lastly, add the finishing touches to your hairstyle by loosening your hair.
Gently tug at your hair at the base of the ponytail, so that it doesn’t lay flat against your scalp, and instead has a gentle and natural curve.
You can also pull out a few strands, using your baby hairs to delicately frame your face.
This extra step not only makes your face look slimmer, but also creates a laid-back and relaxed effect, so that your hairstyle will look effortlessly flawless.
