Louis Vuitton has entered the beauty chat. The French Luxury house, known for its iconic monogrammed trunks and statement fashion, has officially launched its first-ever makeup line, La Beauté, in Singapore.

The collection, which features refillable lipsticks, sheer balms, and eyeshadow palettes designed as objets d’art, promises a blend of high craftsmanship and bold self-expression.

While the packaging and concept have drawn praise, the eye-watering price tags – up to a whopping S$345 for an eyeshadow quad – have also sparked a heated conversation online, with some beauty lovers questioning whether even the most luxurious makeup is worth that kind of splurge.

A Closer Look at La Beauté

Louis Vuitton’s debut makeup collection is about creating beauty objects that are as visually captivating as the brand’s iconic bags. Designed in collaboration with acclaimed German industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, each piece in the La Beauté line is collectible, refillable, and intended to last for years.

It’s a meticulously assembled collection that bridges classic craftsmanship with modern-day identity.

LV Rouge

The crown jewel of the collection is LV Rouge, a line of 55 satin and matte lipsticks housed in sleek, metal cases that evoke the polished hardware of a Louis Vuitton trunk. The bullet itself is subtly stamped with the LV logo, while the case features a floral-inspired locking mechanism reminiscent of the brand’s historic steamer trunks.

Formulated with natural waxes, shea butter, and hyaluronic acid, the lipsticks promise both high-impact pigment and nourishing wear.

Adding an extra layer of luxury, each lipstick is infused with a bespoke scent—a soft floral blend of mimosa, rose, and jasmine developed by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, Louis Vuitton’s in-house master perfumer.

LV Rouge Lipstick retails for S$220, and the refill retails for S$94. Both are available on Louis Vuitton’s online boutique.

LV Baume

For those who prefer a more understated lip, LV Baume offers 10 sheer balms in delicate pinks, browns, and berries.

Designed to glide on effortlessly, these balms deliver a hint of colour with a lightweight, hydrating finish. Enriched with hyaluronic acid, the formula is also subtly scented with mint and raspberry – balancing freshness with softness.

Just like the lipsticks, these balms are encased in sculptural, refillable tubes that double as art pieces for the vanity.

LV Ombre

The Louis Vuitton La Beauté collection also includes LV Ombre, a range of eight eyeshadow palettes, each featuring four carefully curated shades. The quads are designed with versatility in mind, combining wearable neutrals with a bold pop of colour to encourage both everyday wear and creative expression.

The textures span ultra-matte, satin, metallic, and glitter finishes, catering to both subtle and dramatic looks. The packaging continues the house’s aesthetic legacy: angular, compact cases finished in polished metal, with a tactile LV-embossed closure.

LV Ombre retails for S$345 and the refill retails for S$125. Both are available on Louis Vuitton’s online boutique.

Public Reactions to LV’s Pricey Debut

While La Beauté has dazzled with its design and craftsmanship, the public response hasn’t been all glowing. Almost immediately after its global launch, beauty enthusiasts took to social media platforms and forums to express shock – not at the shades or formulas, but at the prices.

At S$220 for a lipstick and S$345 for an eyeshadow palette, many (including celebrities like Lindsay Lohan) are questioning whether Louis Vuitton’s entry into makeup is redefining luxury – or simply pushing it too far.

Even across platforms like TikTok and Instagram, comments range from light-hearted jabs to serious critiques about pricing during a time of global economic uncertainty. Many users drew comparisons to other luxury fashion brands with established beauty lines.

The collection blurs the line between makeup and luxury objects, offering consumers not just pigment and performance, but artistry, heritage and exclusivity.

Yet in a world where even high beauty often leans toward accessibility, the brand’s unapologetic pricing has sparked a necessary conversation: how much are we truly willing to pay for luxury, and when does beauty become more about status than self-expression?

As the collection lands in Singapore, one thing is certain – La Beauté has everyone talking, whether they’re buying or browsing.
